Build Your Own Tv Wall Unit

Build Your Own Tv Wall Unit – Hi all, I got a lot of inspiration from this forum while planning a small diy project for a curved tv. Just thought I’d share my progress so far.

So here’s where I started….a basic square room, with an old 37″ Panasonic plasma. Time to upgrade this! Set on a Panasonic 50″ dx750b.

He wanted to get it mounted on the wall but the wall that was running is an old chimney and running the fields for the cable runs just seemed like a lot of hassle. Anyway, he decided that a false wall in front would be easier. You can then drop the cables! I saw a few ideas here and decided to take care of the tv as well.

Stylish Ideas For Decorating Around A Tv Set

Basic studwork up. Measured and re-measured, then re-measured x100 to get the size of the TV + 80mm all round for a recess and a bit of ventilation…

Bracket on… attached this directly to the original wall which meant I didn’t have to bring the wall too far for the tv recess.

Initially I was just going to join boards and smooth it with a little sanding, but I decided that plaster skim would be better. New ends are placed ready to peel off…

I also did some decorating in between. The fake wall will get a nice paper on it and the rest of the room painted. I have some skirting and coving to wear too. Plaster done….just need to wait on it to dry now!

How To Build A Diy Wall Cabinet

Nice, neat and subtle, what are the plans for the sides of the wall? it looks like there is a gap there…

It looks great. Interested to see how this goes and what av stuff ends up being used. How and what is that power socket connected to?

Thank you! Gave it a few mist coats and a top coat of paint today. Eventually it will be papered but it won’t do any harm and make it look neat and tidy until I get papering done. For the socket, I ran a spur from the other socket on the left side of the chimney down underground and back to where the new socket is.

Av kit will be relatively low key….this is not the main living room. Just a wee room at the front of the house which you will use for tv etc. I will probably get a decent Bly ray and sky Q player hopefully I will install v soon. All the cables run to the left of the chimney so you will probably get a small unit to put the sky box etc.

Entertainment Wall Units

I have a 55″ panny in the main room with a sonos soundbar setup. Subwoofer next on the shopping list for there and then will connect 2x play 1s for surround.

Richb1888, This looks really clean and nice! I was thinking of something similar in my living room but with a wider “extra wall” after I finished the downstairs cinema but after seeing this I’m thinking more about doing the -I lived roughly the same size as I have since then. it looks so clean. Love the idea of wall mounting the TV and the clean area around it in a living room where the TV is not always the main focal point.

Had a mess around with some LED light strips. Prob will leave on white, but you get the idea….

Coving and skirting above. A little filling and painting next! Those angles were a bit tricky!!! Amazing how much the roof is out! A little filler and you’ll never notice tho! Carpet also trimmed to fit new wall. Got there……!

Custom Made Tv Entertainment

Pic doesn’t really do it justice but it’s pretty much there now. I’ll go for the wallpaper in a few weeks when I have some free time but I’m happy with the end result so far!

Not very happy with the bias lighting… they are not white enough. White simulated by RGB LEDs. Will have to look for something else instead. Any suggestions?

Something like Vansky Bright White strips are around 6500k, which is supposed to be the right level for BIAS lighting

This looks great! We thought about putting lights around the TV in ours, and at the time I didn’t want to. But I like the look, so it might be something we can add in the future if we want to.

What depth did this add to the original thread? Want to see if I can do something similar, but concerned about the depth it will add.

It looks good. Quite jealous of the Sonos sub as I have the playbar and 2 play 1’s. I thought about the sub but now Sonos have added True Play the sound is amazing and I think the sub may be excessive. The tv is obviously connected to Sky but where is the box?

I’m using a dual row 5050 RGBW LED strip behind my 65″ flat screen which is in a fake wall like yours. That gives you rgb color mixing leds and genuine white leds (choose the temperature of your color I found “cold white” I forget what it is as a number)

If you use the appropriate controller you can also mix the RGB chips with the white chips (ie use both strips at the same time). The colors really “pop” then.

How To Hang A Television On Wall Without Centered Studs

The sonos sub is fantastic! I agree that tuning the real games really improved the overall sound but the sub gives it more depth! I have not yet hooked surround play 1s up. What’s next….do you get a decent surround effect?

Ps sky box is sitting on the floor behind a footstool at the moment lol but eventually it will be in a unit/on a shelf depending on what furniture we grow. Everything goes to the alcove on the left side. Here are a few dodgy iPhone panoramic shots that give a better view of the room…

In terms of depth now comes out 195mm. The original chimney was about 90-95mm. It doesn’t look much bigger than what was there before and it’s not the biggest of rooms. I was concerned about the same so I kept things to a minimum. This is why the bracket attaches directly to the original chimney wall with a cut to accommodate it (see post #2). This allowed me to use 100mm studs to achieve the required depth for the recess. Thanks for looking, and good luck. I say go for it!!

Now that they’ve added True Play tuning into the mix, yes, it cuts through the surround much better than it originally did and you really notice it more. Before it was quite flat and hard to distinguish that there was actually a surround track in there but now it’s much punchier and you really notice it. I’ve only got the bar and the back 2 play 1’s and to me, fantastic as it is and I can only assume it gets better as you add 2 more play 1’s to the front surround. The best soundbar I have ever had and I have though some of the best Yamaha ranges. Sonos is good value for money.
