Pallet Garden Bench Diy

Pallet Garden Bench Diy – Step by step instructions on how to freeze a potting chair with wooden pallets. This is an inexpensive device that you can stand on to perform gardening tasks like sowing seeds and growing plants in pots. The shelf underneath is also a great place to store gardening materials. Includes DIY video.

Once upon a time, there was a gardener who made her kitchen a mess. Throughout the year, she sits at the table to fill trays with compost and minerals, often spilling debris on the floor and cracks in the center of the table. Cleaning was a nightmare, and when she swept the potting mix for the hundredth time, she dreamed of a dedicated workspace for seeding, potting and other gardening tasks. Somewhere outside the house and closer to her greenhouse. That woman is who I am, and my woes are a thing of the past since I figured out how to build a chair out of wooden pallets.

I’m so happy with this design so I’ll also show you how to build one. All you need are two wooden pallets, a few tools, long screws and a few hours of your time. The end product is an attractive wooden pallet gourd bench that costs practically nothing to make. First, there are a few things you need to know about pallets and potting benches.

Crafty Wooden Pallets Ideas For Your Garden

When you start gardening as a hobby, you tend to make use of the materials and space that you have. As that hobby grows into a passion, so does the size of your garden or plant collection. That means more potting mix, more pots, more trays, and more gardening in general! Having a shed and greenhouse is the goal of many hobby gardeners but before investing in those you should definitely consider a potting bench first.

The potting bench is the surface on which you stand to perform gardening tasks. Sowing seeds, cultivating, propagating plants, etc. They are a work surface for dirty jobs, and they can have an easy-to-clean surface so you can use potting mix directly on it or have space for a plastic potting tray. I prefer the latter because it’s easier to pick them up to pour excess potting mix back into a bag or bucket.

The potting bench is usually a place where you can store gardening materials. Beneath your workspace, there’s usually space for pots and trays, and they can have hooks and racks to hold tools, labels, cords, and other items.

For this project, you will need two wooden pallets, but not any pallets. First, they need to be a wood block spacer design like the photo below. There are a few different pallet designs, but the most important is that they have those wooden blocks. They are integral to the design of the wooden pallet gourd bench as both the top and bottom sides rest on them. Wood planks create the back of the pallet, and those wooden blocks will become the legs for your bench.

Potting Bench From Pallet Wood

There tend to be only three planks that make up the back of the pallet, so that will only give you three legs for your pallet gourd bench. That’s why you’ll need a second pallet — for the fourth leg and a few spare boards to make the structure more stable. Considering this, try to find two identical pallets if possible, or at least two pallets with back boards that are very similar in terms of block pattern and spacing.

Finally, I recommend choosing pallets that have been IPPC stamped. These are pallets for international travel and the stamp tells you a lot about where the pallet was made and how it was handled. Pallets are often heat treated (HT) or sprayed with pesticides (MB or SF) to prevent the spread of pests from one country to another. Unstamped pallets are only used within a specific country (and are common in the United States). There’s no way to tell if these are chemically sprayed so I’d avoid them if possible. Pallets treated with the chemicals Methyl Bromide (MB) or Sulfuryl fluoride (SF) are not safe to use on home and garden projects.

This project is relatively simple but you need to have basic skills with the use of hand tools. You also don’t need to use electric drills and jigsaws like I do. Hand saws, hammers and nails will also work. As for pallets, I find my pallets at local industrial parks, around the back of stores, and my boyfriend brings them home from work. Builders and deckers often deliver materials to them on pallets, so you should reach out to friends and family who also work in the industry.

If you have access to pallets, I have many other ideas for you to try. Over the years, I’ve done a lot of pallet projects for both home and garden and can recommend the following ideas:

How to build a wooden pallet gourd bench using a single pallet plus a few additional planks from a second. Creates a low cost unit that you can stand on to plant seeds, potted plants and store gardening materials. DIY video is included below, showing step by step how to recreate this gourd bench.

If you see that the pallets do not match the design, you can still use them to create a wooden pallet chair. You can simply split and/or use more wood to support the top and bottom surfaces as well as the legs.

This pallet gourd chair isn’t my first, and my previous one was much simpler. If you are after an extremely easy build feel free to use this alternative design. Some time ago my boyfriend cut a standard sized pallet in half and attached four legs. It doesn’t have extra storage shelves like my new one but it still works great. I’ve been using it for a few years and it’s a simple and inexpensive gourd bench design that works. I also have it in my greenhouse so it acts as a potting bench and staging in one.

The legs of this potting bench are slightly shorter than my new gourd bench which is 2x2x30″ (5x5x75 cm). They are some cuts from my old chicken coop, that’s why they are green. However, I had to crouch a bit above the surface, so if you use this design, I recommend making the legs 35″ (90 cm). They may look scrawny in the photo above but they are actually very sturdy! That’s because Josh screwed them in from both the top and side of the pallet.

I’m on the moon with my new pallet gourd bench! I like the rustic look of it and don’t plan on painting the wood. The fact that I use recycled materials to build it also makes me extremely happy. Not only did it bring new life to my old wooden pallet(s), but I also saved a lot of money. Potting benches are pretty standard gardening equipment, but you can expect to pay hundreds of dollars to buy them. It again shows that ‘why buy when you can make your own?’ Whether you’re a gardener interested in growing flowers and vegetables from seeds or someone simply growing a few pots on your floor, having a dedicated potting area can be a real game. people change. Here I show you how to build your own using 5 pallets.

Step 1: Choose two identical pallets for the sides and one for the table top. I opted for a fully covered wooden pallet instead of a slider pallet but of course you can use whatever you have.

The countertop works best if you have a wooden pallet that is completely covered so your compost doesn’t fall out.

Step 2: Turn both sides of the pallet upside down and carefully remove the back wooden slats with a crowbar and hammer. Remove any loose nails too. I chose to wear gloves for this to protect my hands. Set any good wooden slats aside as they can be used later.

Step 3: Turn the upper pallet of the bench upside down and, using a saw, cut the back bars back to the crossbars.

Step 4:  Now, you need to cut 3 pallets to the right size. Using a saw and wearing a dust mask, cut the pallets down to a depth of 70 cm. Set the cuts 30 cm apart as they will serve as shelves later.

Instead of cutting through the slats, try to cut through the crossbars in between the slats. This could mean that depending on the size of the pallet you cut it to a different size than mine.

Step 5: The table top should now be cut along both sides, so that it rests on the side rails as they stand in place. Use a ruler to measure 10 cm on either side (or to the first support beam under .).
