How To Keep Phone Safe

How To Keep Phone Safe – It’s no secret that the technology we use can make us targets for viruses and cyberattacks if not properly secured. In terms of using mobile devices, there is no manual that comes with the phone to teach users mobile safety. In addition, threats are always evolving and adapting based on our habits.

To help you navigate your device in a safe way, we’ve created an infographic that includes 8 mobile safety tips to keep your device safe.

How To Keep Phone Safe

One potential threat is getting your device stolen, which can give thieves full access to your personal information. To prevent this, make sure to have a lock on your screen. Whether this is a passcode, pattern, fingerprint or facial recognition is up to you and the capabilities of your device.

Five Steps To Keep Your Android Phone Secure

When you activate the lock screen, you will have the option to choose how long the phone can stay idle before locking. Make sure to choose the shortest amount of time. It will protect you, by activating the lock screen automatically even if you forget to lock it yourself. It will also save your battery as the screen will darken after the set time.

Setting strong passwords for your apps makes it much harder for hackers to guess. It is also recommended to set a different password for each application. This way if one password is found, the hacker won’t have access to all of your information.

Not only are personal devices a concern, but professional devices are also at risk. According to the Verizon Mobile Security Index 2018 Report, only 39% of enterprise mobile users have changed all default passwords and only 38% use strong two-factor authentication on their mobile devices. Having a weak password can put an entire organization at risk.

Phone operating system updates are meant to improve your experience. This can require anything from performance to security. Even if they happen frequently and users are likely to click quickly or ask the device to alert them in the future, it’s important to stay up to date with these developments. These updates can protect iOS and Android devices against newly discovered threats. To check if your phone’s OS is up to date, go to “about phone” or “general” and click on “system update” or “software update”.

When you download an app, make sure to download it from the official app store and check the reviews. Cyber criminals create malicious mobile applications that impersonate trusted brands to obtain confidential user information. To avoid this trap, be sure to look at the number of reviews, the last update, and the organization’s contact information.

Jailbreaking or rooting your phone is when you unlock your phone and remove the protection that was installed by the manufacturer so you can access anything you want. You may be tempted to jailbreak or root your phone to access app stores other than the official ones, but this puts you at high risk. The apps in these unauthorized stores have not been checked and can easily hack your phone and steal your information.

Your smartphone stores a lot of data. If lost or stolen, email, contacts, financial information and more can be put at risk. To protect your phone data, you can make sure the data is encrypted. Encrypted data is stored in an unreadable form so that it cannot be understood.

Most phones have encryption settings that you can enable in the security menu. How To Keep Your Digital Life Safe On Your Phone

Cell phones are amazing tools that allow us to do great things every day. Here’s how to make sure your problems don’t cause big problems in life.

1. Lock your phone’s keypad (and PIN or passcode is secure and private), so that others can’t pick it up, unlock it, and use it to get you in trouble when you’re not looking.

2. Do not take pictures or videos of a sexual nature from your cell phone. First, if it involves nudity or even partial nudity, it is illegal and classified as child pornography – a felony violation in all states. The intentions of the parties do not matter, nor does it matter whether permission is granted. Second, they tend to fall into the hands of the wrong people. Think about your reputation.

3. Remember that owning a cell phone is a privilege and not a right. Treat it like that. Appreciate that your parents let you have it (and often bought it for you), and you’ll earn their respect even more. Many youths have sabotaged their future (eg, college admissions, scholarships, job opportunities, legal and fee issues, criminal charges, being put on sex offenders registers) because they have abused electronic devices and social media. It is NOT worth it.

Protect Your Mobile Phone

4. Don’t text or record pictures or videos on your phone that you don’t feel comfortable sharing with your parents.

5. Remember that all the text, photos, and videos you make with your phone are often stored and can be retrieved as digital evidence (even years later). They are sometimes stored on your phone provider’s servers, in your phone’s Cloud account, or on your phone’s flash memory or SIM card (or another phone that has sent or received them) – even if you’ve deleted them.

6. Schools can take your cell phone if they have a reasonable suspicion that it is involved in a violation of school policy or the law. Ask that your parents be present when you give it to them.

7. Never text and drive. No text is worth losing your life, or taking someone else’s. If there is something urgent, pull over the vehicle to a safe place before handling it.

How To Keep Personal Information Safe While Using Your Mobile Phone

9. Ask yourself how you would feel if a text you sent or a picture or video you took was broadcast throughout the school, and all over the Internet. Even if you don’t personally send it, other people can and often do.

10. Don’t respond to SMS from numbers and people you don’t know. Learn how you can block specific individuals (via their mobile number) from contacting you. Don’t subject yourself unnecessarily to people who
