How To Build A King Size Headboard
I spent $350 in lumber for this bed! It’s a steal when you compare prices on comparable beds to shop.
How To Build A King Size Bed Frame
These are 2×6 boards that are each ripped with a 4” wide table saw. Add glue between the two boards and clamp very tightly until the glue dries. You will make 2 headboard legs and 2 footboard legs. While they are drying,
Add 3/4” pocket holes on all 4 sides of the headboard plywood panel. These pocket holes will face the back. Add 1.5” pocket holes down one side of each vertical headboard frame piece. Attach the plywood to the frame boards using wood glue and 1.5” pocket hole screws. The tops and bottoms of the frame boards will be flush with the top and bottom of the plywood, and the backs will be flush with the back of the plywood.
Add 1.5” pocket holes to the bottom of the top horizontal frame board and also add 1.5” pocket holes to the ends of both horizontal frame boards. Attach these boards through the plywood and into the frame board using 1.5” pocket hole screws in the plywood, as well as the vertical frame boards and top and bottom frame boards with 2.5” pocket hole screws.
Next, add the trim pieces to the headboard. These are 1×6 boards ripped to 5” each. They are all equally spaced. Cut each board to size and attach to the plywood using wood glue and 1.25” brad nails.
King Bed Frame For Adjustable Base
The horizontal trim pieces are also 1×6 boards ripped to 5” wide each. Cut each to size and attach to the plywood using wood glue and 1.25” brad nails. These will also be evenly spaced on the plywood.
Make sure your feet are dry from step 1 before attaching! Lay some scrap 1x boards on the ground and place the headboard panel on top of that with the front down. This will set your panel 3/4” off the ground. Place the headboard legs against each side and line the top flush with the top of the headboard panel. Add a line of glue between the legs and the headboard panel and then attach them using 2.5” pocket hole screws through the panel and into each leg.
Now you are ready to start footboarding. The assembly of the footboard is similar to that of the headboard. All you have to do is measure the differences. To assemble the footboard follow the assembly instructions you used on the headboard but follow the footboard measurements.
At this point, add the top two trim boards to both the headboard and footboard. These are 2×6 or 2×4 boards ripped to 2.5” wide each. Attach the back of the headboard and footboard and each trim piece to the top using wood glue and 2.5” pocket hole screws.

Next make 2 sides. Each is layered with 5 boards. The top and bottom boards are 2×4 or 2×6 rips 2.5” wide. The orange and green boards are 4.5” wide by tearing 2×6 boards. The middle board is 3/4” hardwood plywood. Cut each to size and attach each layer using wood glue and pocket hole screws.
At this point, stain or finish all 4 pieces. Once they are dry, you are ready to move them in and assemble them. Do not use wood glue on assembly! This will make it easier to move the bed back when needed. Each mattress needs its own separate support. Do research about yourself before creating Aadhaar. The following shows how I made mine. We use a hybrid mattress and the slat system works perfectly. I attached 2×4 runners to the front and back of the bed with 2.5” pocket hole screws. I also attached the cleats to each side rail using 2” wood screws. Place all these on the same level with the top. You can decide how high you want your mattress to sit depending on where that level is.
Then I laid the mattress base on top of it all. These are also 2×4 boards, and I attached each end to the cleats using 2” wood screws.
Now let’s talk about the finish! I really wanted to brighten up the room, and I sampled several finishes before I decided to mix my own. This is very simple. It’s like cooking.

All you have to do is pour these ingredients into a tray or cup and then mix them with a stirring stick. So, you can mix 1 1/4 cups golden oak with 1/4 cup willow gray to get the finish I created. It’s perfect!

How To Make A Diy Diamond Tufted Headboard »
From our own experience, we strongly recommend you to buy quality lumber. Choose something like pine boards, as they have a beautiful finish and are resistant to rot. Additionally, the wooden boards must be completely straight and in very good condition (no chips, dents, cracks or dents). After deciding which mattress you are going to buy, design the size of the bed frame and wooden components.
Before starting the project, you need to know some woodworking techniques. Therefore, drill pilot holes in the wood components before driving in the screws. Additionally, add glue to the joints and align the components at both ends before driving in the screws. Use a spirit level to plumb the headboard and footboard and to make sure the cleats are horizontal. See all my premium plans in the shop.
If you prefer to do it yourself, getting a king bed doesn’t have to be an expensive purchase. Additionally, if you are into rustic design furniture, you should find this project useful.
Smart Tip: You should always adjust the size of the bed according to your needs and tastes, but according to the techniques you describe below. Always buy a mattress before starting a project.
Diy King Size Farmhouse Bed
The first step of the project is to make the headboard. As you can easily see in the image, to complete the job like a professional, you need to make several components and attach them with screws.
First, make the panels out of 2×6 and 1×6 boards. You need to place 14 slats on the ground, making sure there are no gaps between them (cut about 1/2” from the last slats to fit in place).
Use 1 1/4” nails and good wood glue to professionally lock the components together. Before driving in the screws, align the trims with the top and bottom edges of the slats. Also, the corners should be right angles.
Drill pilot holes in the 4×4 posts and insert 4 1/2” screws into the headboard panel. Attach the header (2×4) and top trim (2×6) to the headboard with wood screws.
