World Largest Renewable Energy Company – Governments, businesses and individual consumers are increasingly looking to alternative and sustainable energy sources beyond fossil fuels as signs of climate change intensify. Although solar and other alternative energies are often more expensive or difficult to produce compared to traditional fossil fuels, they have the main advantage of leaving a significantly smaller environmental footprint. Companies trying to capitalize on the growing demand for solar energy have had varying degrees of success.

These are the largest solar companies by 12-month (TTM) revenue. This list is limited to companies that are publicly traded in the United States or Canada, either directly or through ADRs. But the solar industry is largely based and traded outside of these countries, so excluding many companies would not adequately represent the industry. All four companies on our list technically have ADRs, but they sell so little that they aren’t worth buying. These are GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd. (GCPEF), Xinyi Solar Holdings Ltd. (968), Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. Limited. (YGEHY) and SMA Solar Technology AG (S92). Some foreign companies may report every six months and therefore may have longer lead times. (NYSE:NRG) announced through its wholly owned subsidiary NRG Solar, along with its partner MidAmerican Solar, that they have completed the full acquisition of Agua Solar Hot. Photovoltaic Facility, a 290 megawatt (MW) solar facility located on 2,400 acres of land between Yuma and Phoenix, Arizona. The electricity produced by the resort is sold to a maximum capacity of 230,000 households. Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The Agua Caliente project uses clean solar energy to prevent the release of approximately 324,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year, the equivalent of taking almost 70,000 cars off the road. The creation of 400 jobs during the construction of the project boosted the local economy and benefits the environment by producing clean and renewable energy. The project received a $967 million loan from the US Department of Energy’s Office of Loan Programs.
