This report was published by the International Labor Organization (ILENA) in association with the International Labor Organization (ILO) at the high-level launch of the IRENA Cooperation Framework for Just and Inclusive Transitions, with the support of the United States and South Africa.

China accounts for 39% of the world’s renewable energy projects in 2020, followed by Brazil, India, the United States and members of the European Union. Among them are Vietnam and Malaysia, the most important solar PV exporters; Indonesia and Colombia with large agro-industrial chains; Mexico and the Russian Federation are developing wind energy. In sub-Saharan Africa, solar projects are developing in countries as diverse as Nigeria, Togo and South Africa.
“The potential of renewable energy to create jobs and achieve climate goals cannot be doubted. With COP26, governments must raise their ambitions to reach net zero,” said IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera. “The only way forward is to increase investment in correct and inclusive reforms and optimize the economy.”

IRENA’s Global Energy Transition Outlook estimates that the renewable energy sector could use 43 million by 2050.
