Oregon lawmakers are considering the Clean Energy Act, House Bill 2020, an investment bill that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and invest millions of dollars in clean energy and low-income communities. This bill will help create thousands of jobs, business innovation and a low carbon economy.
Renewable Energy Jobs Portland
For more than a decade, HB 2020 has encouraged a transition to renewable energy and a shift away from fossil fuels. Government money will flow by reducing dependence on imported energy. Almost all of Oregon’s oil production comes from neighboring states such as Wyoming and Montana – about $8.5 billion annually. Clean energy sources like wind and solar can generate electricity in the state and boost local economies. Reducing local pollution will have a huge impact on the environment and the health of our people.
October 5 Is Energy Efficiency Day! Here’s Why It Matters.
California and states in the Northeast have implemented trade-and-trade programs that have reduced emissions and raised money for many climate initiatives. Oregon’s program will eventually join the Western Climate Initiative, California and Quebec’s emissions trading system.
Climate change requires urgent action across all sectors of the economy. The world’s leading scientists have warned that we have 12 years to make drastic changes to reduce climate change or climate catastrophe. Oregon must take the lead in addressing health issues.
The Clean Energy Act will face its first vote in the coming days. We support this bill, which could be the strongest anti-trafficking program in the world. We encourage other business leaders to call your legislators today and vote in their support of this transformative legislation.

The Smoke And Mirrors Defense Of Rng
You may have seen large wind farms. Large turbines generate power when the wind blows. But what if he dies?
Now, Portland General Electric (PGE) has found a way to harness and store that energy.
“This is the next generation of renewable energy because it combines wind, solar and battery storage in one facility and location,” said PGE spokesman Steve Corson.
“It allows you to store some of that energy and use it when the sun isn’t shining or the wind is blowing,” Corson said. “This will be the first large-scale power plant in the country to combine these three sources.”

The Whitridge Energy Center is located in Morrow County, near the Boardman coal plant that closed in October.
300 MW wind farm completed. The 50 MW and 30 MW solar plants will be completed by the end of 2021.
PGE is partnering with NextEra Energy Resources on a project that will help it meet its 2040 emissions targets.
But as energy demand shifts away from coal and gas, PGE’s customers must also do their part to reduce their costs.

“You sign up for one of our programs, and we’ll adjust your thermostat or water heater so you can save a little energy that you’ll never see because it’s distributed to 900,000,000 customers,” says Corson. “But it can make a big difference.”
They will get about 1% more on their bills, but the energy they pay for will be environmentally friendly. Ben Franklin’s research on lightning led to Thomas Edison’s light bulb, which led to the use of motors and automobiles. It powered the world in the 20th century Electricity is now the driving force of modern society, from the lighting in our homes and offices to our mobile phones, and many of the appliances we use in everyday activities such as cooking and cleaning. There are many ways to do this. For more than a century, fossil fuels, the primary source of energy generation, mainline power plants, hydroelectric and nuclear power plants no longer compete with coal and natural gas to generate all their output. However, advances in technology have allowed rapid expansion of solar and wind capacity.
The expansion will require workers to install photovoltaic (PV) panels and install and maintain wind turbines. PV installers assemble, install and maintain rooftops and other systems that convert sunlight into energy. Wind technicians (windtech) install, maintain and repair wind turbines. These two occupations are expected to grow the fastest among all occupations from 2019 to 2029. These occupations will need to increase energy efficiency
The article in the back of the issue looks at what will happen to solar and wind energy in the next 10 years and the opportunities for job seekers who want to work as PV installers and technicians.
Renewable Energy Recruitment
Employment of PV installers is expected to grow 50.5 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the 3.7 percent forecast for all occupations. Windtechs are also expected to grow the fastest during the 2019-29 decade (60.7%). Both professions are in the process of growing significantly in 2019-29.
However, since both are small occupations, this rapid growth will only create 10,400 new jobs over the forecast period. (See Table 1.)
Includes undisclosed wages and salaries, and does not include self-employed workers, sole proprietorships and non-partnership partners, or domestic workers.
Additionally, both occupations pay more than the 2019 median wage for all occupations ($39,810), and neither occupation requires a post-secondary degree. PV installers typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, while wine technicians need a bachelor’s degree.
Environmental Justice Advocates Lead Oregon To 100 Percent Clean Electricity Future
Average annual wages for both occupations are higher than most occupations, which generally require similar levels of education. In 2019, the median annual salary for occupations requiring a high school diploma was approximately $37,930; and $39,940 for all jobs requiring a second grade entry level award.
As technology evolves and develops over time, the cost of using technology decreases and more are created. When it comes to solar power, prices are coming down over time and more people are willing to install it, which is driving down costs and increasing solar availability.
Electricity from renewable energy sources is now cheaper than traditional sources like coal and nuclear power.
Solar prices have fallen from $144 per megawatt hour in 2008 to $25 per megawatt hour in 2019.
Alternative Energy Research: 6 Areas For Your Science To Save The Planet
More solar panels are installed as installation costs drop. As a result, a large portion of the electricity demand is met by end consumers who do not receive electricity through businesses.
Long-term energy storage costs can be high over many years. For example, the energy savings associated with installing solar panels over 20 years could be $17,000 in Portland or $50,000 in Los Angeles, California.
The national average cost of using 6 kilowatts (kW) of solar is about $13,142, plus tax credits and $17,760 after.
Additionally, there are solar companies that rent rooftops to homeowners and in return lower the homeowner’s electricity bill. This rental program allows customers to spend less on initial installation costs.

Because of these savings, the share of solar PV in electricity generation has doubled, from 0.4 percent in 2015 to 1.0 percent in 2019.
The cost of energy (LCOE) for renewable energy (including lifetime estimates, fuel costs and installation) is at or below the cost of conventional energy sources. This low comparison is expected to continue as the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that the unweighted LCOE for solar energy will be $31.73 in 2029 and $39.44 for dry wind in that year.
This is one factor in end-of-life renewable energy loan costs that reduce installation costs. Wind and solar will cost less than coal and nuclear. (See Table 2.)
Note: EIA does not have projections for hydropower in 2029. They have a constant project of $57.37 million starting in 2032.
New Program In Portland Encourages Use Of Renewable Energy
Solar energy is expressed as net AC (alternating current) in installed capacity on the grid.
New technologies continue to develop and improve. For example, today sunlight accounts for 30 to 46% of the conversion of light to electricity in the laboratory.
