Office Of Energy Efficiency And Renewable Energy

Posted at September 28th, 2022 | Categorised in Renewable Energy

Office Of Energy Efficiency And Renewable Energy – IREC and partners today announced the launch of a three-year, $2.1 million project funded by the US Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) to reduce barriers to deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs). Education and resources to improve the knowledge of 30,000 security professionals.

Construction, fencing and security personnel play a critical role in the safe, widespread and rapid deployment of new technologies that make the network more resilient and resilient. These include energy storage systems (ESS), electric vehicles (EV) and energy efficient building technologies. However, these emerging technologies create an urgent need for up-to-date training for this audience beyond code and existing educational resources.

By increasing the awareness and confidence of these key stakeholders to allow and verify DER, the project will significantly reduce the barriers to DER deployment. The project faces several unique challenges: rapidly changing emerging technologies, the evolving needs of those at the forefront of DER adoption, and the ability to cost-effectively reach a national audience.

IREC President and CEO Larry Sherwood said, “Construction and safety personnel such as building and electrical inspectors and firefighters are key stakeholders in enabling the safe and efficient installation of clean energy and related technologies.” Because these technologies are rapidly evolving , it will be important that they have access to appropriate training and the latest resources. This project makes it happen.

The project will create a widely accessible DER Information Clearinghouse website to provide expert information on clean energy regulations, standards, permits and inspections. Educational content and resources are regularly added to this clearinghouse website, designed to appeal to a diverse audience. In addition, IREC will develop modular online training for project assessment and verification of solar PV systems, energy storage systems and electricity charging infrastructure.

The team members participating in IREC for this project are experts in their field: International Code Council (ICC); International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI); National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM); Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL); University of Central Florida – FSEC Energy Research Center (UCF-FSEC); Energy Conservation Association (ESA); and UL LLC.

Each partner brings a critical perspective of their stakeholders to inform educational decisions, as well as extensive networks that enable the team to bring thousands of people to the website to expand knowledge and confidence in DER technologies. The team previously collaborated on a project funded by the US Department of Energy that successfully trained 15,000 code officers and fire officials in solar technology.

“The Code Council recognizes the important role that energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies play in achieving goals at the community and industry level,” said Code Council Executive Director Dominic Sims. “Code personnel are critical to a wide range of these decisions. We are pleased to join IREC in providing code to the resources officials need to support these technologies and processes.

“Electrical training and reliable educational pathways are critical for electrical inspectors, installers and designers,” said Joseph Wage, Jr., IAEI director of digital education. “Well-trained inspectors and installers can sometimes reduce friction. These new technologies evolve during installation and inspection to ensure a safe, code-compliant system.

“A comprehensive understanding of solar, conservation, energy efficiency and alternative fuels for firefighters and other safety personnel is critical to our mission to protect lives, property and the environment from fire and related hazards,” said Jim Narva. , NASFM Executive Director. . “Working with IREC on this collaborative agreement will strengthen the relationship between all stakeholders and increase the security burden for these systems.”

“Providing easy access to educational tools for everything from handling potential best practices to emergency response in one repository will be valuable to authorities, emergency responders and system developers,” said Matt Pace. Laboratory. “PNNL sees a tremendous opportunity for this project to fill critical knowledge gaps and ultimately accelerate the safe deployment of renewable energy and storage systems.”

New Project Will Provide Training On Distributed Energy Technologies For Building, Safety Officials

“The clean energy industry is evolving rapidly and requires those responsible for code enforcement and quality control to stay abreast of the latest technological advances. Education is a core mission of FSEC, and we are part of that important team. We’re happy to contribute. solar plus storage and alternative fuel vehicle experience,” said James Fenton, director of the FSEC Energy Research Center at the University of Central Florida.

The project team was selected as a collaborative effort of the Educational Content for Professional Organizations Working to Advance Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EMPOWERED) funding program, EERE’s Office of Solar Energy Technologies, Office of Building Technologies, and Office of Automotive Technologies. .
