How To Refund In Steam – #GameTechie How to Get a Steam Game Refund If you bought a new game and immediately don’t like it, you have options.
If you don’t like a game you bought on Steam, you can request a refund. Of course, there are other levels, so I won’t be able to bring back an old title that I played for hours.
However, if you don’t like the game you just bought, you can cut your losses and get all your money back.
This process is not necessarily efficient, but it is not overly difficult. Let’s discuss how to return the game to Steam and request a full refund.
Before you consider returning a purchased product, you should first ensure that it is covered by Steam’s return policy. Based on this, we will consider cases that do not fall under the guidelines.
Currently, refunds must be requested within 14 days of purchase and the total playing time must not exceed 2 hours. You should remember the 2 hour rule whenever you start a new game, so you you will always know where to go before you get too deep.
If you don’t fully meet the requirements but want a refund, it’s worth trying. However, your results may vary.
If you bought the game and it’s not for you, you have options. Here’s how to return a Steam game for a full refund:
If your refund request complies with Steam’s policies, you will definitely receive a refund. Only those who abuse this system can be denied.
However, if you like to exploit the system, you can beat all the games within a two-hour limit. This way you won’t have to pay for the product again on the platform (don’t do it).

Before starting his studies, he worked in the field of technical support, gaining valuable knowledge about technology and its users. He is also currently an editor and writer coach for Dean Publishing. With holiday sales on PC and gaming consoles underway, many gamers are using their savings to buy their favorite titles at discounted prices. Once you’ve purchased a game, hopefully you can download it, launch it, and play it right away, but things can go wrong.
The game may not be as playable, repetitive, or as fun as you hoped. It’s also possible that when you bought a lot of games during the sale, you just read the technical requirements section and didn’t realize that you don’t have enough power to run the game properly. In such cases, the easiest way is to return the money immediately. This article explains the Steam refund process.
Valve’s FAQ about the refund process requires you to go to their support website, which is admittedly a hassle. If you have the Steam client installed on your computer, why not use the Steam client yourself? However, this article assumes that it has been added to make the process more efficient.
After starting the Steam client, find the game you want to restore on the left side and click on it. This will bring up a section on your screen dedicated to the game in question. Click the Support button in the main options bar for your brand. This will take you to our new support page and the second step in the process.
As you can see above, the Steam customer support page offers a list of options that you can choose from to indicate the problem you are having with the game. Only the following options are valid for refund requests:
For other options, Steam will inform you that it cannot help you and ask you to contact the relevant parties such as key vendors and developers.
Clicking on any of the three right above will bring up a submenu with more questions. For the purposes of this guide, clicking on “Game or Technical News” brought up the submenu above. Here I clicked “I’m having trouble running the game”.
This brought me to another page that offered some of the above options. You can see different options on this page depending on the options you selected earlier. Here, Valve usually recommends several options for solving game problems, including contacting the game developer. However, you can also ignore all other options and click I want to request a refund directly.
Selecting ‘I want to return’ will take you to the final page where you will need to fill in your details. It is important to know the details of this step. Valve usually returns games that have been released in less than 2 hours and within 14 days of purchase. Valves can still take you back if you don’t meet these criteria, but it’s not very easy. I’ve tried several times for obvious reasons, and Valve has never returned games that have been played for more than two hours or purchased more than 14 days ago.
When you talk about “reasoning in detail”, you can enter it in the “sentences” column. But I’ve found that even one explanation like “not good” works. In addition, you can choose the location of the refund. It can be your primary payment method or your Steam Wallet. We highly recommend the second option if you plan to reuse it through Steam. This is because it does not require an extra page and is very fast.
In addition, it is important to remember that games obtained with promotional keys (such as those provided by developers) cannot be returned. The amount of your refund will be based on the price you paid for the item, not its current value. Finally, you can return the game you received as a gift, but the value of the money will go back to the person who gave the title, not your account. If you are satisfied with the above, please click “Submit application”.
Now all you have to do is wait for Valve to accept your refund request. As long as you meet all the playtime and ownership requirements, the company will generally refund your money. In my case, I have noticed that these requests are usually received after many hours.
According to Valve, it can take up to 7 days for the funds to appear in your account, but for Steam Wallet funds, my experience is that it takes a few days at most. For international payment methods linked to banks, this process may take 7 days or more. In that case, Valve recommends contacting your bank for more information.
Assuming everything goes well, your refund request will be approved and processed within a few days. However, if your application is rejected for any reason and you wish to appeal the decision, Valve will offer to submit a new application so that another representative can review it.
Finally, Valve does not set a limit on refund requests, but if you think you are abusing this option, you can limit your account. In my case, I bought about 15 games, some of which I played individually, and I realized that I didn’t like them all. At that time, Valve sent me an email to warn me to use the refund option carefully due to the high number of requests I received on my account.
