Build Own Tv Stand – This tutorial will show you how to make a DIY TV stand for your TV and all of its connected devices. To keep this project as beginner-friendly as possible, building plans are simple and power tools are minimal. enjoy!

Here’s a gorgeous mid-century handcrafted cabinet that I stole off eBay last year (well, I want to tell myself I stole it because the only other option was to admit the idea that I might be ripped off – which in reality —I might be…).

Of course my husband hated it from the moment he saw it. Naturally, he didn’t hesitate to say it out loud at every opportunity (Oh, I just had a sudden déjà vu. Did you read my last post about our new velvet couch?)

Mind you, this went on for about a year (I was as stubborn as he was)…

Until one day I decided enough was enough! If I want to get a moment’s respite, he…sorry, I mean the TV cabinet has to go!

Yes, now I have two cupboards (thanks to dearest hubby). One is currently sitting in the garage waiting to be listed on eBay (I’m bursting into tears here) and the other, well this one…. I made it out of plywood!

This project is a collaboration with Gorilla Glue. I’m pretty sure most of you are familiar with them – so I won’t go into too much detail about the brand itself.

I will say, though, that I’ve been using Gorilla Glue for most of my DIY projects and they’ve never let me down. Each of their products does exactly what they say – sealed with all the strength and toughness of a gorilla.

I have received various products of the project. But I ended up using glue from the clear glue range. I love that this glue doesn’t bubble up when it dries!

I usually cut all the wood myself, but this time I felt the need to cut corners. I went to my local hardware store (JEWSON in this case), bought a huge piece of plywood, and watched them cut the wood to my exact dimensions.

NOTE: I measured this build based on an existing TV cabinet I already had – you know the one we can’t say

However, if you want to do this step yourself, using a circular saw with guides will ensure you get perfect cuts every time!

Drill two holes on each end of the larger board (these holes need to be large enough to fit the 75mm screws). The holes should not be placed too close to the edge of the wood as they will be used to hold the side panels in place (

To do this, apply Gorilla Clear Glue to each end of the base wood panel. Notes; Since plywood is a porous wood, it does not need to be sprayed with water before gluing.

Place the shorter board on top of the glue – use a 90 degree angle to make sure it’s all dry. You can place this unit against a wall or secure it with a clip (if desired) while you wait for it to dry

How To Build A Tv {or Aquarium!} Stand

Once the glue has dried (1-2 hours to fully dry, but at least 24 hours to bond/cure), put the final top plate in place in the same manner. You should get a rectangular box like this

Gorilla Glue does a great job of holding wood together. However, to make this TV stand more stable, I inserted 75mm screws in the pre-drilled holes.

Secure each hinge in place – one end to the inside of the TV cabinet and one end to the cabinet door.

Note: I seem to be missing a step here: the cutting of the cabinet doors, but keep in mind they were already cut to size by my hardware store.

Build A Custom Built In Shelving Unit

Not only does this shelf create additional storage space for TV connections and media, but it also provides additional support for the TV cabinet.

To hold it in place, you first need to make supports out of smaller pieces of wood. Don’t forget to pre-drill two holes in each bracket

Apply clear Gorilla Glue to the back of the bracket and attach to the inside of the side of the TV stand (use a level to make sure it sits straight).

I bought the backing wider than my cabinets – so I had to cut it to size with a hand saw before nailing it in place

To make the handle, measure and mark each hole you want. Then use a drill with a 3/8 piece to create them. You will need to apply some force to make sure the bit goes all the way into the wood.

Now, if you like the original look, you can stop in this tutorial and install the legs you want.

It took me a total of 3 hours to apply the paint tape. I really want to make sure everything is straight before trying to paint.

The thickness of the black stripe is 9.1 cm. I used a gap of 8.5cm between each stripe.

I mean it looked crazy in my studio, but when I brought it home and put it in my living room, I almost died of how pretty it was!

It pains me to admit it (because that would mean admitting my husband was right), but this new TV stand fits the living room decor better than the first one.

It turned out perfect! I modified it a bit to fit more stockings, but it’s easy to get on and a good price.

The plans are ok, but missing the angle of the cross X, the plywood bunny and some other dimensions. If you are a beginner, it is recommended that you purchase another plan.
