With the VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed, we wanted to make comfortable and cozy beds for all those children who like to hang out there. But the goal was also to significantly reduce the amount of material in order to save on natural resources.
Metal is a durable and stable material and really fits the VITVAL bed frame. The question was how much we could reduce the amount of metal used without compromising stability and safety. Product developer Anna Carme and her colleagues performed detailed calculations and safety tests. “We’ve come a long way,” says Anna. “But that wasn’t enough – we thought the bed frames were still too heavy.”

Experimenting with materials, the team replaced the edges of the bed with fabric. This means that they reduced the metal content by almost a third compared to the same bed. “We found a strong polyester material that gives the bed a nice and comfortable feel – both when the kids are out with friends and when it’s bedtime.”
“The fabric is mounted on the frame,” explains Anna. “And to make sure the circuit is easy for all parents, we invited a few people to test it.” The tests led the team to divide the fabric into sections and make the strips with yellow edges more flexible so that they are easier to pull. “I like to play detective, find out and check what we have for different possibilities,” says Anna. “Nothing beats the feeling when you finally find a good solution.”

It was their mistake to isolate the section and redo it. Overall, it’s not a terrible process. Make sure you love the person helping you. Make sure your workspace is big enough. Build. Work as a team and together and follow instructions. Don’t try to go further, it won’t help. Don’t tighten the screws all the way (very important) there will be cursing and laughter, maybe some light name calling lol.. (why do you need someone you like). By 11 p.m., we had turned beds, mattresses (that’s all) and arranged everything so that someone could sleep on them.
