Bathroom Remodeling Ideas For Small Spaces

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas For Small Spaces – 8 Tips for Remodeling a small bathroom stuck with a small bathroom? Simple renovation strategies, including a fresh color, flooring, and custom countertops, can help you expand the space without knocking down any walls. This post was brought to you by Sears Home Services. His facts and opinions are consistent with those of .

Until a few decades ago, all bathrooms were small—most were no larger than 5 feet by 8 feet, providing just enough room for a tub/shower combination, vanity, and toilet. You might think that the smaller the bathroom, the more difficult the renovation, because how can you create openings and spaces without tearing out any existing walls? Fortunately, homeowners who plan to work with what they have can find smart choices in color, fixtures, and fittings that can make a small bathroom look and feel larger than its actual square footage. We asked Joe Maykut, a product manager for Sears Home Services, to share with us the best design tactics for homeowners stuck with small bathrooms—and boy, did he deliver. If you’re looking to remodel your bathroom, these eight tips will help you get the most out of your small space.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas For Small Spaces

From painting the wall to furniture, it is best to avoid dark colors and contrasting colors in a small space. “Stay with light colors—a monochrome color scheme is best—so you don’t feel like you’re in a cave,” Maykut advises. Soft gray walls, for example, are very popular now. If you’d prefer a bit more color, consider other trendy options, such as ice blue, seafoam green, warm white, and butter yellow. All these colors work well, paired with white trim and cabinets, to open up a small bathroom. You’re sure to find some appealing cabinetry options among the selection of more than eight colors offered by Sears Home Services.

Small Bathroom Design Ideas

By sticking to the lighter shades of one color family for paint and furniture, you’ll avoid strong contrasting tones that can make a small room seem even smaller. Matching your choice of floor tiles with the color of the wall can also be a good idea-this will make the corners of the room disappear, creating a feeling of more space. Avoid putting any color on the ceiling, though; a basic white is the best choice here.

Keeping the walls with light trim does not mean you have to settle for an absence of color or personality, though. Maykut recommends injecting color into the bathroom through the accessories you choose. Bold red towels and a soap dispenser in a matching shade will energize a small bathroom without overwhelming it. Add texture and color to the floor with a patterned rug. If you should get tired of the look of your bathroom on the road, this color strategy makes updating easy: All you have to do is change out your fabric and accessories to create a new look and feel.

Visually increasing the ceiling of the bathroom will make the whole room feel larger, and it is not a difficult illusion to achieve. For starters, it’s a good idea to replace large crown molding with narrower crown molding that’s painted to match the ceiling, because heavy, black crown molding will overwhelm a small room. You might also reconsider the room’s light fixtures. A hanging ceiling fixture emphasizes the small room, so replace it with recessed lighting for a cleaner look. Need extras? Wall sconces that direct overhead light blur the line between the wall and the ceiling, almost as if the ceiling is lowered.

The more light that bounces off your bathroom, the bigger the room will look. The most obvious place to start is with intentionally reflective surfaces: mirrors. “Whenever you have an opportunity to put a mirror on the wall, choose the largest one that will fit,” Maykut said. “It will give you the illusion that the room is bigger than it actually is.”

Small Bathrooms, Big Design

You may not realize, however, that high-gloss fixtures (tubs, sinks, and showers), shiny countertops, and glossy tile backsplashes do more of the same. Consult the Sears Home Services team to find materials that give the right shine and complement the rest of your project plans.

Pocket doors, that is. The standard bathroom door swings inward, which cuts into usable floor space behind it. (After all, you can’t station practical storage next to the door if it prohibits the door from swinging open far enough to allow entry.) A pocket door, on the other hand, is nonintrusive, retracting from the wall to maximize the small . the bathroom footprint.

While installing one requires reframing the wall to create a thin space through which the door can slide, this change does not remove more than a few inches of space from the adjoining room. If you are remodeling a master bathroom, you also have the option of installing a pocket door with a privacy glass panel, which will visually open up the area even more.

There never seems to be enough room for everything you want to hide in the bathroom, so start by cutting back on what you store there. Keep only the essentials—extras like spare towels, cleaning supplies, extra toilet paper, and tissue boxes can be moved to a nearby room or bedroom closet.

Bathroom Renovation Ideas: Before & After

Look at your counter next. Maykut says: “Limited counter space is always a problem in small bathrooms. Often, you will be left with nowhere to put a cup of tea or lie down to do your curls. A creative solution to find space is to choose a custom counter. While most bathroom configurations to put the vanity next to the commode, Maykut suggests “extend a narrow corner of the counter on the wall behind the bathroom.” This otherwise wasted space is just good for a supply of tissues or a variety of toiletries.

Choosing a countertop and designing the right storage space to fit your particular bathroom is not as difficult as it seems, thanks to the Sears Home Services team. When you sign up for a consultation, a qualified representative will take the necessary steps and help you choose countertops and cabinets from the comfort of your own home. In fact, during the consultation, you can choose shower fixtures, flooring, and accessories that fit your style and budget—it’s just like having a bathroom showroom brought to you.

While a textured glass shower door offers a bit of privacy, a clear glass shower door turns the shower into an extension of the rest of the bathroom rather than cutting it off the way a curtain or half wall might. If your remodeling plans allow, consider swapping out a tub for a stand-up shower, and opt for a glass-sided shower with a clear glass door.

. For your own personal comfort and to protect a newly remodeled bathroom, Maykut advises homeowners to “install adequate ventilation in order to reduce high humidity that can damage paint and drywall.”

Best Small Bathroom Ideas

Most bathroom ventilation fans are installed on the ceiling and draw hot air and steam from a duct outside the house, so they should be added during the renovation process. Opt for a recessed ventilation fan to keep the ceiling looking sleek and uncluttered.

The tubs are large and functional for everyone from babies to older people and even family dogs. A long day at the office can be soaked away with nothing more than a bathtub full of water and a gaggle of bubbles. While a garden tub may be a selling point for families with babies or toddlers, for those living life outside of that stage a bathroom plumbing fixture as intimate as a tub may be better suited for a sprawling master bathroom.

On average, bathtubs occupy 13 square feet of space in your bathroom. In a small bathroom where space is at a premium, getting rid of this space hog can open up your options. Rub this tub into your plans and get an abundance of space
