The Huawei Watch Fit offers most of the basic features offered by the more expensive Huawei Watch, but for a lot less money. It offers reliable fitness tracking, long battery life and good performance. Lite OS won’t appeal to all tastes and the lack of third-party app support and advanced features for iPhone users will be a problem for some, but it covers the basics well for those with Android phones in general or Huawei phones in particular. .

The Huawei Watch Fit looks like what you get if you throw the Huawei Band 4 Pro and the Huawei Watch GT 2 into an Apple Watch blender. It’s more fashionable to wear than a traditional fitness tracker or standard smartwatch, but still has enough smarts to fit into the Huawei Watch line rather than the Huawei Band family.

I wore the Huawei Watch Fit alongside Huawei’s new “regular” smartwatch, the Watch GT 2 Pro. The dual wear experience offered some interesting insights, which we’ll delve into in our full Huawei Watch Fit review below. Spoiler: Unless you really want wireless charging or titanium, sapphire glass, and ceramic on your wrist, the Huawei Watch Fit meets your fitness tracking needs for just $200 less.

Huawei Watch Fit Review Notes: I wore the Huawei Watch Fit for a week, along with the Huawei P40 Pro. During the Huawei Watch Fit review period, it was running software version 1.0.0.52 with Huawei Health version 10.1.2.515. A review unit of the Huawei Watch Fit is provided

Huawei Watch Fit Or Honor Watch Es? The Smartwatch Review Shows More Differences Than Expected

Yes, the Huawei Watch Fit looks like a thin and stretched Apple Watch. Unfortunately, it’s an all-too-common design choice at the cheap end of the wearable spectrum where recognition trumps specificity. I would have hoped that Huawei would do more than emulate Apple at this point in the company’s history, but it is what it is, so let’s ignore it and move on.

The Huawei Watch Fit will immediately appeal to those who like Huawei’s wearable offerings but aren’t too keen on their weight. Personally, I’m a fan of chunky watches, but I’m not lost on the understated appeal of the Huawei Watch Fit. One thing I noticed right away is that the Watch Fit doesn’t catch shirts like my other smartwatches because it doesn’t have big buttons.

You’ll find a single flat button on the right side and a proprietary magnetic pogo pin integrated into the USB charging cable, so you don’t lose or break it when you decide to buy the Huawei Watch Fit. It attaches to one side of the Watch Fit’s plastic back, near the heart rate sensor. In case you’re wondering, yes, you can charge your Watch Fit while wearing it and still track your heart rate, SpO2, or track stress.

Throughout this review, you’ll see what I consider to be the best color of the bunch, an attractive melon orange paired with a rose gold chassis. The Watch Fit also comes in sakura pink band (rose gold body), graphite black band (black body) and mint green watch band (silver body) versions. The chassis of the Huawei Watch Fit is made of polymer material with a matte finish.

The simple silicone band can be removed by inserting a hoof into the small groove on the back to remove the plug that locks the strap in place. If you don’t want to buy another official strap, you shouldn’t miss the small locking plug because you can’t throw another standard strap on the watch. It’s still early days, but this plastic locking mechanism fills me with confidence.

The 1.64-inch always-curved OLED screen fits all the information a round smartwatch has well, but sometimes it feels a bit clunky. This is especially noticeable on screens that show heart rate or stress levels. You get used to it after a while and the only real difference is that the font can sometimes be much smaller than on larger watches and you don’t have as much horizontal space to display the graphs.

The Watch Fit screen offers a resolution of 456 x 280 pixels (326 ppi). You have a dozen pre-installed watch faces to choose from, some of which are customizable, and more you can download via the Huawei Health app. Six always-on dials are available out of the box, but using them will almost cut your battery life in half. For the purpose of testing battery life for this review, I did not enable always-on display.

While the screen’s curvature made swiping movements less “obtrusive” than other wearables I’ve used with sharp edges, light refraction around the screen’s perimeter was a bit of a pain. Overall, I didn’t notice much of a problem and the screen had nice poppy colors and deep blacks. The lighting outside was quite acceptable, if not particularly noticeable.

Huawei Watch Fit Review: Your Own Portable Fitness Instructor

The Huawei Watch Fit runs Lite OS, the same wearable operating system you’ll find on other devices in the Huawei Watch family. Lite OS’s user interface has been tweaked a bit to fit the rectangular screen, and it looks great. I prefer it to the UI found on many of the bulky Huawei Band devices, but as mentioned above, it’s a bit weaker than the Lite OS on larger Huawei watches.

Contrary to what I previously thought, the Watch Fit is powered by the DK3.5 + ST chipset, not the Kirin A1. I am not familiar with this processor and have contacted Huawei for more information. While I think it’s a cheaper chipset than the A1 given the Watch Fit’s price, I actually found it to be more fluid and responsive than the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro (which uses the Kirin A1). If the stupidity has put you off other Huawei smartwatches, it doesn’t seem to be the problem.

Huawei promises 10 days of battery life from the 180mAh battery on the Watch Fit. I fully charged it when I first got it a week ago, which surprisingly took over an hour, and I’m at 15% as I write this review. That battery should last a full 10 days or so. In comparison, the GT 2 Pro was at 10% of what I wore over the same period, on track for about 9 or 10 days instead of the promised 14 days.

The Lite OS software experience on the Watch Fit will be similar to anyone who has used a Huawei Watch before. Swimming through horizontal screens reveals heart rate, stress level, weather, music playback and an activity dashboard.

Huawei Watch Fit 2 Is Like Having A Personal Trainer On Your Wrist

Unlike the Watch GT 2 Pro, you can only control the music playing on your phone, not stream it to the Watch Fit. Given that both devices have 4GB of storage, I’m guessing this option isn’t available on the Watch Fit for battery life reasons. Or maybe the new chipset powering the Watch Fit isn’t able to handle Bluetooth headset connections. Or maybe it’s because the Watch Fit doesn’t have a speaker.

The activity dashboard you can see in the image above includes steps, minutes of tracked activity, and daily active hours in a simple progress meter style. Some other watch faces can carry a bunch of this information on the main screen if that’s your thing. You can access more detailed information about the activity in Huawei Health, which we will add below.
