The Environmental Defense Fund nails it with its latest article, Clean Energy Builds a New American Workforce.

Clean Energy Training And Careers

The renewable energy sector currently employs around 777,000 people, the largest in the United States. Similar to the telecommunications industry, it employs four times as many workers as the coal industry and employs about 160,000 people. Not only is this workforce well represented, it is also growing. From 2016 to 2017, jobs in the solar industry grew by just 24.5%.

Why are we seeing such a boom in the renewable energy job market? The Environmental Defense Fund adds this to some contributing factors:

This sudden explosion of renewable energy jobs is not going away anytime soon. In fact, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that solar installer employment will increase by 51% between 2019 and 2029, exceeding the national average for all occupations.

The solar energy industry in particular creates thousands of green jobs for Americans. The global solar renewable energy market is expected to become a multi-billion dollar opportunity for US companies over the next 25 years.

Green energy isn’t just a powerful business opportunity; It is an investment in our environment and our climate. Solar panels use far less energy than they produce over their lifetime. Many consumers and workplaces are turning to solar energy as an alternative source of energy for the following reasons:

For all these reasons, big US companies like Apple and Amazon are investing in solar energy. we. The federal government has invested $51.2 billion in solar and wind energy. Confidence in solar energy is high and money is fast following it, making it a promising job market for years to come.

Sunlight is the most plentiful source of potential energy on the planet – renewable or non-renewable. In fact, when used properly, sunlight can quickly exceed current and future electricity needs. According to the US Department of Energy, every hour solar energy that reaches the earth provides the world’s energy needs for a whole year.

November 21, 2019 – In a community in western Colorado, decades of drought are having lasting effects on surrounding forests, and frequent extreme weather events are destroying native fruit crops. Coal mines have provided the region with ample fuel, and recent discoveries of natural gas in deep shale herald additional fossil fuel sources. But stagnant oil prices and the recent closure of two out of three coal mines have prompted a high school teacher to prepare his students for a different future.

Alberta Oil And Gas Workers Get Solar Energy Training

With funding from the Planet Stewards Education Project, environmental science teacher Ben Graves has set out to educate his students in the growing field of solar energy. Delta, Colorado has the highest solar PV potential in the state, and Graves saw an opportunity to help his community adapt to climate change and economic conditions. “Reinvention starts with creating societal awareness, changing attitudes and providing opportunities to learn new skills through technical training,” he said.

Students of the Professional Solar Training Course 2017-2018 at Graves learned all phases of solar design and solar installation. They then used this knowledge by building a solar array in a new arena for the solar PV lab. The students guided every step of the process. He planned the layout of the solar panels, drew the wiring, and installed a 2.4 kW pole-mounted array to power the school building’s science department.

The students fully embraced their role as engineers, collecting onboard performance data and creating a set of standard operating procedures to maximize production in different seasons. Advanced Placement ® environmental science students monitored the scale to predict annual power generation and calculate the project’s climate benefits. Finally, the students in the 2017-2018 class helped lay the foundation for future solar systems in their school and in their community. Upon completion of this project, A. Graves successfully submitted a proposal to the Delta-Montrose Electric Association, a local electric utility company, to install solar panels in all of the county’s high schools.
