Renewable Energy Singapore – The fifth renewable energy project in the Asia-Pacific region is part of our commitment to invest globally in solar and wind energy projects.

Amazon is the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy and today we are announcing our first renewable energy project in Singapore, a 62 megawatt (MW) solar project consisting of an array of solar panels installed on ground systems. The advantage of ground-based solar is the ability to better position the system to capture sunlight as weather conditions change. When completed in 2022, the project will be one of the largest integrated mobile solar power systems designed and installed in Singapore and will add clean renewable energy to the national electricity grid. The project is expected to generate 80,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy annually, enough to power more than 10,000 homes in Singapore.

Renewable Energy Singapore

Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have been investing and growing in Singapore for more than a decade. Our announcement today supports Singapore’s bold vision outlined in the Singapore Green Plan 2030, a ten-year plan with a sustainable development agenda for the country as a whole. Utility-scale solar projects like the Singapore project align with the clean energy pillar of the Green Plan and help fulfill Amazon’s commitment to power our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030. His session will take place five years ago to 2025. The project will provide renewable energy to Amazon’s offices, fulfillment centers and AWS data centers that support millions of customers around the world.

In addition to adding clean, renewable energy to the power grids we operate around the world, AWS is and will continue to be focused on improving performance in all aspects of our infrastructure. From the affordable infrastructure that powers our servers, to the methods we use to cool our data centers, to the innovative server designs we offer our customers, energy efficiency is our global infrastructure. The scale of AWS allows us to achieve much higher resource utilization and energy efficiency than a typical on-premise data center, and the AWS global infrastructure is based on AWS’s own hardware – intended for workloads managed by AWS customers – Built and customized. According to a 451 research report, AWS infrastructure was found to be 3.6 times more energy efficient than the median of US enterprise data center research, with more than two-thirds of the gains attributable to the most energy-efficient server population and higher servers. Use.

AWS also works with customers and partners to help them achieve their sustainability goals. By running computing workloads in the cloud, customers and partners can benefit from our ongoing efforts and structure their workloads for high performance. 90% of what we build is driven by what our customers tell us. To achieve our shared goals, we focus on four complementary areas: improving energy efficiency in our facilities and equipment, continuing innovation in our data centers, supporting the creation of a renewable energy-friendly environment and around the world Working with various energy providers in Availability of renewable energy sources.

The Singapore project is our latest renewable energy investment in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2019, we have announced three wind and solar projects in Australia and one solar project in China. Together, these projects represent an installed capacity of approximately 411 MW and provide more than 900,000 MW of additional renewable energy to the local grid.

To achieve its goals under The Climate Pledge, Amazon is committed to investing globally in renewable energy generation to reduce carbon emissions from our operations around the world. We believe we can leverage our size and scale to drive innovation in new technologies to support transformation and a low-carbon economy.

Commentary: Singapore’s Plans To Import Clean Electricity Could Meet Resistance Abroad

In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism launched The Climate Pledge, a commitment to become carbon neutral by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. The significant investment in renewable energy is an important step towards reducing Amazon’s global carbon footprint. Amazon is the world’s largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy, and the projects we operate have the potential to generate more than 6.9 gigawatts of power and deliver more than 20 million megawatts of power annually. These include various centers for utility-scale wind and solar projects and solar rooftops and fulfillment centers around the world.

We believe in leading by example and invite any company interested in joining the Climate Pledge to talk to us about what we can achieve. More than 50 other companies have already signed up and pledged to take immediate action. Addressing global environmental and sustainability challenges is something that no one organization can do alone, but working together we can make a significant impact. Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is building an offshore system that will integrate multiple renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, tidal, diesel and electric gas technologies.

The region’s first large-scale offshore network system, it will have four hybrid microgrids covering an area of more than 64,000 square meters, or about the size of eight football fields. The system will be constructed at the Semakau Landfill managed by the National Environment Agency (NEA). It will feature over 3,000 square meters of photovoltaic (PV) panels, including operational energy storage systems.

Renewable Energy Investments In Our Future

The development of the first hybrid microgrid was announced today by Minister of Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli at the Asia Clean Energy Summit (ACES) held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center at Marina Bay Sands.

“I am delighted that the first micro-grid has just been commissioned and will enable the National Environment Agency (NEA) to operate its infrastructure at the Semakau Landfill using zero carbon electricity. Enabling Downsizing and Transitioning to Renewables I am also pleased to report that REIDS will be deploying 3 more microgrids at the Semakau site to test the interoperability of various microgrid solutions.

Once all four hybrid microgrids are fully constructed, they are expected to produce steady and stable electricity in the megawatt (MW) range, suitable for small islands, isolated villages and emergency power sources.

It also produces energy equivalent to the average energy consumption of 250 4-room HDB flats per year. The fish farm and hatchery located at the Semakau Landfill will be the first to be powered.

Renewable Energy Infrastructure Developer Singapore

Built as part of the NTU-led Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator-Singapore (REIDS) initiative, the hybrid grid system will test the integration of solar, wind, tidal, diesel, energy storage and gas-fired technologies and provide power. do The sources work well together.

Professor Lam Khin Yong, NTU Chief of Staff and Vice-Chancellor (Research) said: “The creation of this first hybrid microgrid is a major leap forward towards carbon-free electricity generation for the country and the region. As a global leader in sustainability research , NTU supports this renewable energy initiative and provides practical renewable energy solutions.Singapore is proud to be at the forefront of developing solutions.

Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and the NEA, NTU’s Reeds initiative promotes the development and commercialization of microgrid technologies suitable for the tropical island.

Asia: Renewable Energy Webinar Invitation

Mr Goh Chi Keong, Executive Director of Cleantech at EDB, said: “Singapore has identified microgrids as a key development area for the clean energy industry. REIDS is the largest microgrid research and development platform in Southeast Asia and as such Singapore’s ambitions.2014 excellence Since its launch in 2011, the REIDS platform has succeeded in attracting leading providers and regional users to develop, demonstrate and export microgrid solutions from Singapore Is.

Ronnie Tai, CEO of NEA, said: “The REIDS project will lead to innovative sustainable energy solutions that can help tackle climate change. Excited. -Grid. To Take Off.”

The REIDS initiative, managed by NTU’s Energy Research Institute ([email protected]), is expected to attract $20 million in projects over the next five years, on top of an initial $10 million investment in landfill infrastructure.

REIDS has attracted investment from leading energy and microgrid companies, aiming to jointly develop such solutions to serve the growing Southeast Asian market.

Solar And Natural Gas In Singapore

The four microgrid systems will be developed by ENGIE, GE Grid Solutions, LS Industrial Solutions (LSIS) and Schneider Electric. Other partners include Accenture, Class NK, DLRE, Renewable Energy Corporation (REC), Trina Solar. LSIS and Sony were also announced today as partners at ACES 2016.

The REIDS platform paves the way for the development and export of similar technologies to serve many remote communities in Southeast Asia.
