Renewable Energy Manufacturers

Renewable Energy Manufacturers – Across America, businesses are increasingly investing in clean, renewable energy. They know that the cost of wind and solar has fallen, allowing companies to take advantage of lower-cost electricity from renewable sources. In addition, customers, employees and investors are demanding that these businesses do more to improve their impact on the world around us.

Over the past year, Chris Dissinger has worked as a consultant for Renew Wisconsin to collect all of these corporate commitments to renewable energy and take a deep dive into which of these national and multinational companies are operating in Wisconsin.

Today, we’re super excited to show you which of these national leader acts are in Wisconsin—and it’s a great list! These are the companies that over the next few years will be looking for opportunities to access renewable energy to meet the needs of their operations in Wisconsin.

We Love Renewables

A timely example of Wisconsin’s renewable energy commitments is Ashley Furniture, based in Arcadia, Wisconsin. On Wednesday, Ashley announced a $29 million investment in renewable energy. The investment will be used to offset 35% of their energy consumption by installing solar panels at 10 of their largest facilities. Ash expects to save at least $5 million in the first year.

Wisconsin’s energy companies have begun creating programs to help companies like these and other large customers meet their renewable energy goals.

Two years ago, Madison Gas & Electric launched a special “renewable energy rider” service for its commercial customers, and just last month they announced that they had expressed interest from the first two customers.

Last fall, We Energies followed that up by getting a proposal and approval for a similar program that would allow its larger customers to sign up for access to dedicated renewable energy sources. Ne Energies was approved for their program in December 2018.

And a few weeks ago, Alliant Energy joined in again and offered a similar plan. Alliant’s plan still needs approval from the Public Service Commission, which oversees and regulates utilities in Wisconsin.

Hope you caught Budweiser’s Super Bowl ad showcasing their commitment to making every Budweiser 100% wind powered. These are success stories that can also happen in Wisconsin.

With dozens of corporations committed to providing renewable energy programs and utility programs, the future of renewable energy looks bright for Wisconsin. The need for a quick transition to clean energy enables new developments in the field of renewable energy. Businesses and industries are turning to renewable energy to reduce emissions, lower energy costs and improve environmental friendliness. Key trends in renewable energy include digitization, efficient energy integration and solutions to remove barriers to renewable energy production. For these reasons, besides innovations in renewable energy sources, the use of big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Energy (IoE) appear as popular trends. Although renewable energies such as solar, wind and hydropower have been around for a long time, recent innovations are making these some of the most popular technologies. Moreover, they dominate the industry due to their competitive advantages. Relatively new areas of research in the renewable sector include energy from green hydrogen and forms of hydropower such as tides, waves and ocean currents.

The treemap below outlines the top 10 renewable energy trends that will impact companies in 2022. Innovations in advanced photovoltaics (PV) focus on technologies that provide high energy efficiency. In addition, the use of big data and artificial intelligence drives renewable energy, while enabling other applications such as predictive maintenance and smart management. Distributed energy storage systems (DESS) provide flexibility and stability for renewable energy production. Network integration techniques stabilize the network by controlling transmission losses. As a result, this leads to efficient use of off-grid energy sources such as biofuel, wind and hydropower located far from demand centers. Indirectly, green hydrogen stores energy obtained from other renewable sources and also facilitates electrification. Bioenergy remains a popular trend due to its decentralized nature. To secure and automate renewable resources, energy startups and scale-ups are making extensive use of blockchain and robotics, among other things.

Solar companies connect PV systems to every aspect of our environment, reducing the need for additional land use. As a result, integrated PV, floatovoltaics and agrovoltaics are logical changes in trends. In addition, startups are developing thin-film cells to make solar panels flexible, cost-effective, lightweight and environmentally friendly. To improve PV performance, emerging companies are creating technologies to focus solar energy using mirrors and lenses. Innovations in PV materials, such as the use of perovskite, increase the energy conversion several times. These innovations are combined with photovoltaic designs that allow maximum efficiency and high productivity. Together, they promote sustainability through recycling, minimal use of resources and the use of alternative materials.

Dutch start-up Lusco is developing luminous solar concentrating technology. It uses high-refractive-index materials such as glass and polymers along with fluorescent dye to focus light at the edges where thin-film solar cells are located. In addition, the fluorescent coating emits light even at night, enabling a self-sustaining signal. The solution collects energy while maintaining aesthetics. Therefore, luminous glasses are suitable for use in the field of automotive, signage and interior design.

Norwegian Crystals is a Norwegian start-up that produces low-carbon monocrystalline silicon rods for high-performance photovoltaic devices. To produce these rods, the start-up melts high-purity silicon at high temperatures using the Chokralsky technique. It also produces gallium-doped rods that increase the lifetime of solar cells and reduce the number of stabilization steps compared to monocrystalline silicon. Through this, Norway Crystal controls the carbon footprint of solar panel components at an extremely low level, empowering consumers and businesses to consider the overall sustainability of solar energy production.

The power grid is one of the most complex infrastructures and requires rapid real-time decision-making, which is enabled by big data and AI algorithms for services. Beyond network analysis and management, artificial intelligence applications in the renewable sector include energy consumption forecasting and predictive maintenance of renewable energy sources. It also enables energy web applications to predict grid capacity levels and perform autonomous time-based pricing and trading. With innovations in cloud computing, virtual power plants (VPPs) complement utility power generation. In addition, startups use data analytics and machine learning to model renewable energy and analyze performance.

It also calculates historical energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, and includes a renewable energy audit and weather forecasting features. It allows individual and group consumers to view consumption patterns in real time. In addition, it allows electricity producers to hybridize different technologies and optimize the size of the load.

The interface visualizes production forecasts, market price indices and accounting data to support decisions. Through these products, the startup enables market participants to increase their share of sustainable energy and returns at the same time.

DESS localizes the production and storage of renewable energy, overcoming production irregularities. Based on financial and other requirements, startups offer different battery and non-battery solutions. For example, flow batteries consume less energy and are stable, while solid state batteries are lighter and offer higher energy density. For applications that require large amounts of energy for short periods of time, capacitors and supercapacitors are also used. Due to concerns about emissions, safety and environmental pollution, startups are creating battery-free storage options, such as hydroelectric and compressed air pumping technologies. In turn, the excess energy is converted into another
