Renewable Energy Growth In The Us – In the U.S., electricity generated from renewable sources continues to grow month-over-month. By April 2022, the share of electricity from renewable sources in the United States will reach 29.3%. This is up from 24.8% in April 2020 and 25.7% in April 2021.

Renewables provided 25.5% of U.S. electricity in the first four months of the year, 21.7% in January-April 2020, and 22.5% in January-April 2021.

During this period, coal power (20.2% of U.S. electricity) declined year-over-year (22% from January 2021 to April 2021) but increased from January to April 2020 (16.8%).

Natural gas power generation is also declining year-over-year, but only slightly (34.7% for both years). Although, it dropped significantly (39.6%) from January 2020 to April 2020.

As previously reported, April was the first month in the U.S. that wind and solar generation surpassed nuclear generation. Wind and solar provide 21% of U.S. electricity, while nuclear provides 17.8% (compared to coal 17.8%, but wind and solar have consistently generated more electricity than coal in previous months).

The market share of wind and solar increased in the first four months of the year from 14.6% in 2020 and 18.4% in 2021.

If you look at their growth year after year, you see the strength and expansion of solar and wind.

Solar increased from 2.9% in January-April 2020 to 3.6% in January-April 2021 and finally to 4.4% in January-April 2022. Wind energy increased from 9.2% to 10.3% to 12.2%.

Wind and solar increased from 12.1% in January-April 2020 to 13.9% in January-April 2021 to 16.7% in January-April 2022.

Hydro (6.5%) was unchanged from the same period in 2021 (6.5%), but down significantly from April 2020 (8.2%).

This growth is one of the fastest growing economies…While fossil fuels remain the dominant form of energy production in the United States, renewable power generation has increased over the past two decades to replace the country’s nuclear power plants.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, from 2002 to 2018, the share of renewable energy in total electricity generation increased by 4%, while nuclear power declined by 3%.

Iran’s Renewable Energy Potential

Coal-fired power generation will continue to be the dominant energy source in the United States, and natural gas production has increased in recent years. From 2000 to 2018, production increased from 50 billion cubic feet per day to more than 80 billion cubic feet per day, a 12% increase in 2018 alone. Overall, 31% of U.S. energy consumption in 2018 came from natural gas.

The slow growth in U.S. new energy production stems from the country’s need to meet its growing energy needs. From 2000 to 2018, the country’s energy consumption increased by more than 2 trillion British thermal units. The increase in renewable energy production has less to do with the country’s desire to reduce carbon emissions and more to do with finding alternative sources of energy that can meet the rapidly growing demand for energy.

In the past three years alone, the U.S. share of renewables in electricity generation increased by three percentage points in the first quarter of this year, from 18.4% in the first quarter of 2019 to 21.6% in the first quarter of 2021.

Solar power generation increased significantly, from 2.0% to 3.1% – still a small but steadily increasing share of total power generation.

The wind and sunshine were better in March compared to the previous months of the quarter. So the same comparison in March (above) shows that wind will grow from 7.8% in 2019 to 12.6% in 2021, and solar will grow from 2.7% to 4.3%.

During this period, hydroelectricity’s share of U.S. electricity generation declined significantly. The same share of electricity comes from natural gas and coal.

As mentioned earlier in this article, renewables in the first quarter of 2021 look better than in the first quarter of 2019 or 2020. In addition, nearly 100% of the new energy added in the United States comes from solar and wind power. So it’s clear that solar and wind will grow again in 2021, and some of the above trends will continue.

Description : The United States and China are the world's top two energy consumers and, as of 2010, the two largest economies. Consequently, they have a decisive role to play in the world's clean energy future.
