Question: What do you really need for postpartum care? What do you put in your postpartum basket? As a mother of three, I’ve been down this road three times so far and I want to share everything I’ve learned with you.
Postpartum Must Haves
Before your baby is born, most of your time and energy is spent registering, buying, and organizing baby stuff (see my ultimate baby registration list). But what no one tells new moms is that they should also stock up on postpartum products that will make postpartum life easier and more comfortable.

As a new mom, I had so many postpartum products that I didn’t even know I needed them. In fact, if you’ve never been there or have someone very close to share these secrets with you, you may be uncomfortably prepared.
Even a second mom can forget what postpartum was like and she may need a refresher on what to expect and what items to keep. From one mom to another, I’m sharing my favorite postpartum treatments to help you feel more comfortable after giving birth.
Add postpartum items to your baby registry! Most moms are happy to buy postpartum products. That’s because you’ve bought postpartum products and know that a few essentials are essential for recovery.
Consider adding postpartum items to your baby registry! If you’re looking forward to it, but don’t have an Amazon Baby Registry yet, sign up. Even if you’re not a new mom, there are many benefits to creating a baby registry, such as discounts on new babies you need and want.
Postpartum Essentials For Mom
Note: I am writing from that perspective as I have had two vaginal births, but I also share many experiences with women who have had caesarean sections.
Your body grew and gave birth to a tiny human, which then crawled up to your chest and began to suck forcefully, continuing to suck for hours a day! Your body hasn’t been through anything like this before (or maybe it’s been a while), so it will need a little help to cope and heal.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before giving birth to help your postpartum body cope and heal! Or at least send your partner to get it as soon as they realize you need it.
We’re also talking about simple and healthy food! We use nutritional support all year round, but it can be very beneficial postpartum as well. Here are some of our favorites.

Postpartum Must Haves!
Herbal Supplements – It is very important to supplement your body with vitamins and minerals after childbirth and during breastfeeding. This is my favorite daily supplement. Worth every penny! If you’re interested in all the extras I get post babe and why, check out this blog.
Hydrating Powder – I love this electrolyte pack. I put it in a large yeti water bottle every morning. Luke is for really hard workouts, but it’s also great for hydrating moms after giving birth. Staying on it is especially key!! You basically ran a marathon… or two 😉
Protein Bars – It’s always good to have healthy snacks on hand! I am very hungry while breastfeeding. These plant-based protein bars were Dang Bars for me.
Magnesium – If you want to go to the bathroom after giving birth, take magnesium! Mix with water and drink every night before going to bed.
Top 25 Ultimate Momma Hospital Bag + Postpartum Essentials
Bra – A key part of postpartum clothing suitable for breastfeeding and comfortable. Especially weeks after birth. I lived in a dressing gown…and still do! I love this lightweight option from Mason Gray. Comes out with an interesting print.
PJs – Easy chest access is everything and this button down pajama set is perfect! It comes in several colors, is made from the softest material, and costs less than $50!
Shorts – I wore a nursing bra, postpartum underwear, and bra after giving birth. About a week later when I wanted to “dress up” I wore these shorts and an oversized t-shirt. Personally, I wear large Olleh diapers, so I didn’t want anything as tight as yoga pants. 😉 If I ate in winter, I would have chosen running.
Postpartum Underwear – You’ll need these babies. I bought two packs to fix the pp. Most women will have to wear these pads and pads for several weeks as they bleed profusely after giving birth. Frida Mom has the best postpartum products. It’s much better than the generics you can get at the hospital.
Must Have Postpartum Essentials For Those First 6 Weeks
Peribottle – The vagina is very sensitive after childbirth and many women break down, so whipping is not done for the time being. This bottle design is perfect for wiping your body after bathing. It’s not an awkward tilt.
Cushion – Found this brand after buying a pod. This is a great organic pillow option. wear a lot p. For the first few weeks after birth, a larger one is suggested.
Sitz Bath – I had no idea what it was until I had my first baby. The midwife brought it. It’s essentially a mini tub for the vagina/perineum. Place it on the toilet, pour warm herbal infusion, and sit on it. It helps heal every part of you. Highly recommended!
Breast Pump – I wanted to try another breast pump because the last one was so noisy. Elvie is much calmer and hands-free. You put it right in your bra. Quite pricey, but amazing.
Postpartum Must Haves: 7 Things Mums Need In Their Postpartum Recovery Kit
Breast Butter – During the first 1-2 weeks, nipples are raw and very sensitive. This butter moisturizes and helps treat mites.
Nursing Pillow – If you are breastfeeding, use a firm pillow to support and comfort your baby. I like this one from Doc-A-Tot. They have lots of fun patterns. As of this writing, Ayla is two weeks old and she has an impromptu postpartum cookware. These items are essential for getting through the long days and nights of taking care of your baby and yourself.
It is what allows you to sleep at night. It is a life saver and a sleep saver. Snuza is a small monitor that attaches to your baby’s diaper or clothing to monitor your baby’s breathing. When your baby stops breathing, the monitor alerts you and flashes red. Knowing that this monitor is on Ayla gives her peace of mind and allows her to sleep when she sleeps.
When Ayla was photographed for a newborn photo shoot, the photographer used what looked like this little vibrating pillow. it was amazing! I ordered the Munchkin Lula Vibe Vibrating Mattress Pad.
My Postpartum Must Have Items From Amazon (including A Few You Probably Haven’t Thought Of!)
As soon as you get home It is good to place it under a bed mattress, sofa cushion, rocking chair, etc. Calms your baby during sleep.
Shane and I did our best to make Ayla the perfect burrito, but no matter how good our burritos were, she always found a way to escape. After purchasing SwaddleMe Velcro swaddles
I realized what we were missing. Thank God I found this within the first two weeks. They are escape proof and immediately reassure Ayla.
In our living room, Ayla is there all day. He loves a vibrating bassinet and a changing table is more convenient than going to bed every time. When Ayla grows we can use the play unit and can easily pack and carry the entire unit.
