When I shared this process on my Instagram stories, I had so many people ask for more details. So here is the exact color process I used. It’s not the only way to do this! This was the largest piece of furniture I have ever restored. I think the fact that it was $75 total (including delivery) gave me the guts!

Now full disclosure: our kitchen is still like this 😅 We are waiting for the island to be removed and it may be a few more weeks with a labor shortage right now! And that’s a good thing – we could get the cottage sooner than I thought, so I decided to start while I could.
Finally, we’ll build a smaller island in the middle here (no storage – just chairs).

On the open shelf in the top right he does what I always recommend you do… MATTRESS! Layering your decor is always more appealing to the eye, especially when it involves different heights!
She actually made this farmhouse book collection by removing the covers from 3 Dollar Tree books, painting them white, and then wrapping them with twine (which you can also buy at Dollar Tree)! She made them stamps from Hobby Lobby.

At the top left of the hut, that’s the dedicated “Halloween” screen! It’s like me in that I don’t decorate much for Halloween…but it’s fun to throw in a few pieces here and there!
Everyone is here together!!! She bought a mix of pumpkins to display on this bottom shelf from Walmart and placed the largest pumpkin in a wreath from Hobby Lobby! Funny story…he needed something to fill the two small side baskets so he drove down the road and picked up some dead plants…LOL! But hey, whatever works, right?!
Here’s a tip…go for the ODD pumpkins. The things that aren’t perfect… make the best and most unique decorations!
For something fun, I let her borrow these wooden pallet pumpkins I got a few years ago! She puts them in the cottage to add some “quirk” to her decor!

Since visual clutter can overwhelm a small space, approach your addition with care to keep things simple. We suggest simplicity through uniformity: combine similar items together. For example, depending on the style of the model, place rows of base plates, serving trays and even wine bottles inside open shelves or behind glass-fronted cabinets.
To minimize the noticeable footprint of a hutch in a small kitchen, paint the piece as an extension of your cabinetry and cover it with the same color. Alternatively, for maximum uniformity, stain the cabinetry to match another piece of kitchen furniture, such as a kitchen table or center island. Don’t be afraid of the homeowner, put a bold, vibrant color in your cottage and make it a focal point.
Now comes the multi-tasking part: inside the closed cupboards of a cottage, store kitchen essentials such as entertainment devices and designate the piece as a kitchen entertainment area. Consider stocking linen, making candles, selling cakes, etc. To take storage a step further, use your detached hutch as a kitchen pantry and equip the cupboards with built-in shelves, drawers and baskets to organize your dry and non-perishable needs.
It is useful to note that a bakery shelf or a bookcase can also provide similar features of a cottage. And for added versatility, if you don’t want to keep it in the kitchen anymore, a hutch can easily work in the living room or office.
