The Huawei Watch 2 has a special low power mode that can show the time and track steps for about a month on a single charge.

The Huawei Watch 2 has almost everything I look for in a smartwatch. There’s GPS for tracking my runs, an optical heart rate sensor for my health, and NFC for mobile payments. The international model will also be offered with 4G LTE cellular connectivity, although the recently released US models ($300 and up) have no cellular option. Still, it’s the closest we’ve seen to an all-inclusive Android Wear 2.0 watch.

However, the main selling point is the watch’s battery life. The Huawei Watch 2 has a special watch mode that can show the time and track steps for up to 25 days. You read that right: the watch can last for about a month on a single charge, even if it’s in ultra-smart mode.

In the US, the Huawei Watch 2 costs $300, or $370 for the step-up design Huawei Watch 2 Classic, which has standard watch straps. Global pricing for all models has yet to be announced.

There are two models: Huawei Watch 2 and Huawei Watch 2 Classic. Both models offer a 1.2-inch 390 x 390 pixel resolution with a circular design. Unlike the original Huawei Watch, which was protected with scratch-proof sapphire crystal glass, this year it has been swapped for Gorilla Glass 3, which Huawei said reduces the weight of the watch. But the watch is also weaker than the original Huawei Watch.

Other specs include a 1.1GHz Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset, 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. There is also an optical heart rate sensor, GPS, NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Unfortunately, the watch isn’t as swim-proof as the Apple Watch Series 2.

Huawei says the watch will last two days with normal use or 10 hours with an active GPS signal, which is on par with the Garmin Forerunner 235 (our top running watch).

For extra battery life, there’s a new View mode to squeeze in extra juice. Huawei says that Watch Mode can extend the battery for an additional 40 hours with 10 percent battery remaining. Note, this basic watch mode is limited to the watch display and the number of steps, and the watch screen is not always activated.

The Huawei Watch 2 and Huawei Watch 2 Classic share all the same features (apart from the global LTE option – this is exclusive to the Huawei Watch 2). The difference between the two is in the design. The Watch 2 has a sportier and more rugged look with curved straps. It also includes an additional button that can be customized to quickly jump to a specific app (by default it will launch a workout). Meanwhile, the Classic model has a more traditional look and features a standard 22mm watch strap. None have a rotating crown like LG’s new watches.

During its Mobile World Congress press conference today, Huawei also announced the Porsche Edition of the Watch 2. Huawei didn’t say what specific features it will have, but I’ll report back when I hear more and when I see it in person.

The GPS on the Huawei Watch 2 allows you to measure speed, distance and speed while running or cycling. Unlike the first-generation Huawei Watch, which only offers heart rate on demand, the new model will continuously track heart rate, similar to the Fitbit Charge 2.

On paper, the new Huawei Watch is similar to the LG Watch Sport, but it looks like an Android Wear 2.0 sports watch. It feels very comfortable, and has almost the same characteristic.

The original Huawei Watch was my favorite Android Wear smartwatch so while I’m not the biggest fan of the scale like tachymeter around the bezel, the new model has almost all the features I look for in a watch. I wish the LTE model had come to the US, though.

I have a confession to make: I’ve been using the iPhone as my daily driver for the past four months. While I love Android, the iPhone gives me a different experience and I really enjoy it. Even when I’m tired of iPhone and iOS, I still stick with it. why? Because of the Apple Watch. I’ve never been big on wearables, but the Apple Watch is a really great companion. I’ve been looking for something to compete with the Apple Watch in terms of things and haven’t found much.

During my search, I came across the HUAWEI Watch 2 Classic. For one reason or another, I would always pass it up. The bezel looks a bit big in the pictures, the screen isn’t the size I’d like it to be…it’s always been something. But, the reviews finally won me over and I reached out to Huawei to see if we could get a review unit. Now, it’s not ideal to review a device a year after it hit the market, but luckily the folks at Huawei were able to accommodate us.

The HUAWEI Watch 2 has a stainless steel body with a ceramic bezel around the display. Huawei says the ceramic bezel is six times stronger than stainless steel. This bezel features a time increment just like you would find on a watch. It’s love or hate for me, but I guess it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t particularly use it (I’m a digital type of person) but like a sign on a cell phone display, I don’t see it when I’m not looking for it.

The watch looks a little big and heavy in pictures, but it’s a different story in person. I was surprised at how light it really is. While some will say that this watch feels a little cheap, I like it because there is zero fatigue. Big watches can get in the way (the Watch 2 Classic can easily slip under your shirt sleeve) and weigh you down. You can tell that HUAWEI has tried to keep it light so that people are more willing to use it during workouts and they have done a great job.

The display is a 1.3-inch, 390 x 390 AMOLED panel covered with Gorilla Glass. I love AMOLED and the HUAWEI Watch 2 Classic has a great design. It brightens up wonderfully for use on sunny days. Since AMOLED only blocks pixels when it needs to display black, the stylized watch screen and dark viewing faces look amazing.

AMOLED displays also help save battery. Inside is a fast-charging 420mAh battery that provides anywhere from 36-48 hours of use depending on what you use your watch for. I don’t track health a ton so I get close to two days of battery life. I’m really happy with the battery life and find that if I put the watch on the charger while getting ready early in the morning, I have enough battery for a full day.

HUAWEI claims the watch can be charged from dead to full in about 60 minutes so we did our own testing. Here are the results:

As we can see, Huawei’s claims miss the mark by almost half an hour. I usually go to bed with about 45% battery, put it on the charger early in the morning, and I’m good to go the rest of the day.

Talking about the charger, HUAWEI has done a good job here. In case you missed the original HUAWEI Watch, the charger was one of the worst we’ve seen. The clock moves through the pins regularly
