I was in a Google Meet meeting with clients. “Okay, go ahead and show me the screen,” I said. I waited. nothing. No screen sharing. They saw the permission change request (Figure A) but didn’t know what to do. So we moved on to other things without screen sharing.

A week later it happened again. I’ve been on Google Meet with different people and they also had a hard time introducing themselves.

In either case, a person who wanted to present from Google Meet on a Mac had to change the macOS security setting. However, it was not easy for a person to quickly find and change, especially between meetings.

The first time you try to share a screen, window, or tab from Google Meet, you’ll be prompted to change settings.

So, if you plan to show or share your screen while in Google Meet on Chrome on Mac, follow the steps below. To perform these steps, you must do the following:

Disable Students Sharing Screens In Google Meet

The changes below will ensure that Google Meet has the necessary MacOS security permissions to show your screen.

(Note: If you have forgotten your macOS administrator password, you can reset it in several ways. First, try resetting your password in recovery mode. Or, in some cases, you can use another one, such as resetting it with an Apple ID.)

4. You must unlock before changing settings. Select the lock (Figure D, bottom left), then a message and prompt will appear. Sign in using TouchID or your system administrator account name and password.

Select Lock and confirm with TouchID or admin account and password to allow changes.

5. Make sure the Privacy button is selected (from the top settings tab), then scroll down and select Screen Recording (from the left menu).

6. Scroll down until Chrome appears in the right pane and check the Screen Sharing box (Figure E).

Scroll down to Screen Recording, select and check the box next to Google Chrome (on the right).

7. If Chrome is open, you will receive a message that the settings will only be applied after you exit Chrome (Figure F). Select Next or Exit and reopen. I suggest you quit and try again.

How To Screen Share On Google Meet?

If Google Chrome is active, it must be uninstalled and restarted before the presentation. (If you make this change mid-meeting, you’ll need to rejoin the Google Meet session when you restart Chrome.)

After making the above changes, you can present from Google Meet in Chrome on Mac. When you’re in a meeting, select the “Now” icon at the bottom of your screen (it looks like a box with an up arrow), then choose one of three options: Full Screen, Window, or Tab. .

Additionally, Chrome requires camera and microphone permissions to share video and audio with Google Meet. In most cases, you’ve already granted this access when you started a Google Meet session. If you want to check or change the settings, the above process is similar to the above steps.

If you want to know how to share your entire screen, share Chrome tabs, or share app windows on your screen during a Google Meet call, this guide will help.

When you’re on an active Google Meet call in the Chrome browser, you can access the screen sharing options by clicking the Show Now button in the lower-right corner of your screen.

It gives you three sharing options: full screen sharing, window sharing, or Chrome browser tab sharing, which Google recommends as the best option if you want to share videos.

To share your entire screen, click this option from the pop-up menu. This creates a preview of what other people will see.

If you want to share everything you see on the screen, click on the preview area and click the “Share” button.

You’ll see a popup letting you know you’re currently bidding, and you’ll also see a message on the top left of the screen letting you know.

To stop the presentation, simply click the “Stop Presentation” button in the lower right corner of the screen.

Another useful feature of Google Meet for Google Chrome users is the ability to share your open application window. This means you can share documents, presentations, calendars and more.

To share an application window, click the “Window” option from the pop-up menu. This will create a pop-up window showing all your open programs.

To share a Chrome tab, click this option from the pop-up menu. This will create a popup showing all your open windows.

Just select the tab you want to share and click Share. Note that Google also shares any audio in this tab. If you don’t want to share the audio, select this option at the bottom left of the pop-up window.

If you switch to another tab while sharing the original tab, a popup in the top left of the screen will let you “Share this tab.” Just click to run.

To stop sharing tabs, click Stop at the top left of the screen.

You can also share your screen during Google Meet calls on Android devices and iPhone and iPad. On all mobile platforms, when you’re in an active Google Meet call, simply find and tap the three-dot menu icon.

Next, Android users will see “Start Sharing”. iPhone and iPad users will see a “Start Broadcast” option.

Remember that everything on your screen, including messages, can be seen by the person you’re sharing it with. You can enter Do Not Follow mode to prevent notifications from appearing on your iOS device.
