I won’t go into the details of how to open the battery case etc. So when we remove the old cells from the box we can see what was the reason for the deadlock condition. In fact, some other software like BE2Works doesn’t have this feature at all, so I appreciate that, and misidentification is a very rare thing anyway.

The next step will be to find and check the condition of the fuse. There are several types of fuses and their test points are different, but I will not cover all of them now, we will focus on this type. Put the multimeter into continuity or /buzzer/ mode and see if you should hear a beep or a closed circuit indication between test point 1 and test point 2 as in the picture, if there is no sound or the readings are an open circuit, that means the fuse has blown and it must be reset, but only AFTER unlocking and reprogramming the chip is complete. Next, we switch the multimeter to resistance mode and place one probe on test point 3 and the other probe on test point 1 or 2, and depending on the fuse model, you will see a resistance of about 10 to 50 ohms. This is the resistance of the heating element that melts the fuse. So we can confirm that the fuse is fine.

Our next step is to spot weld our new cells and you need to make sure they have more or less the same chemistry and discharge characteristics as the old ones. Otherwise, the chip will incorrectly calculate the state of charge. The performance of the new cells can be different from the old ones and can be easily adjusted.

When connecting new cells to a circuit board, we ALWAYS start with the NEGATIVE connection first, because if we accidentally start connecting, the chip can lock up again, or the fuse can blow, etc.

Some software like UBRT for example claims to unlock BQ9000, maybe it will work with ACER batteries but not HP, Lenovo or DELL etc, personally tested! But NLBA, as we can see, also works with untested battery firmware.

2 – Before trying to clear errors or anything, ALWAYS read the original EEPROM and save it first. Only because if something goes wrong, you can always write the original EEPROM to the chip.

3 – Now you can proceed to clear chip memory errors and change date, cycles, FCC. In this case, the FCC will be the same as the original because the new cells have the same capacity as the old ones. That’s 6 cells of 2200mAh each, so in a 3s 2p configuration this will result in a capacity of 4400mAh and that’s the value we need to enter in the FCC field.

4 – When we finish the unlocking process, we need to press END RESET and go back to the BATTERY INFO tab to check the results.

As we can see the CHARGE VOLTAGE and CHARGE CURRENT values ​​have reappeared, the current is -11mA, this is what we want because the output LED is now lit and this means the battery can output voltage. The FULL CHARGE ALARM is now gone, which also means that the chip is unlocked. The cycle count is 0, the FCC is also changed to the desired 4400mAh and the battery reports 100% health. The battery is now new and will work flawlessly in the laptop.

The last thing you need to do now is run a full charge and full discharge calibration cycle to confirm normal operation.
