Good quality dishwashing soaps like Dawn are formulated to combat heavy grease on pots and pans, and they work equally well on textiles and clothes. Start by covering the stained area with liquid dish soap. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes so the soap absorbs as much grease and oil as possible. Do not dry the stain as this may drive the oil further into the fabric. Then wash the item with your normal washing machine detergent in the hottest water recommended for your fabric. Hang or tumble dry when you’re done.
If you’re wondering how to get cooking oil out of clothes, chances are you’re already in the kitchen. You don’t have to wonder about it for too long – instead, take a box of baking soda from the cup. Baking soda is absorbent and absorbs the oil and removes it from the material. Simply sprinkle baking soda over the surface of the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then shake off the baking powder. Apply a small amount of washing-up liquid to the stained area. Do this even if the stain is no longer visible. Cover the surface of the stain with baby powder and leave it for 30 minutes to absorb the grease. Shake off the excess and cover the area where the stain was with liquid dish soap. Wait approx. 10 minutes and then throw the garment in the washing machine on the hottest setting allowed for the fabric. Hang or tumble dry when the wash cycle is complete. Believe it or not, chalk is just as absorbent as baby powder and baking soda. The only difference? Since the chalk comes in a stick, not a powder, rub it over the surface of the stain. Although chalk is usually washable and generally not known to stain, use white chalk to be safe. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then gently remove the excess chalk with the tip of your nail.
