How To Keep Schools Safe

How To Keep Schools Safe – As the school year comes to an end, our work to ensure school safety continues. This spring, MCPS released a report on school safety. The report details the different ways our school system protects students and staff. As part of this report, we include an action plan that provides additional steps in our ongoing security efforts. Updates of our progress and program plans can be found here.

Additionally, I want to share with you some of the things we hear from students about school safety. Last month, we surveyed a sample of students to gather input on what steps they believe MCPS should take to keep schools safe. We received over 1,100 responses. The main topics raised were the improvement of infrastructure; increased presence of security forces; and expanded mental health and support services. I appreciate all their thoughtful responses on this important topic. Their submission information can be viewed here.

How To Keep Schools Safe

Ensuring the safety of our schools is our number one priority, but we cannot do it alone. Your support and input is critical to our success. Thank you for all you have done and will do to protect our students. Now, all countries, parents, students, teachers and all those who work in public education are struggling to find how to return to school and in the middle of the emergency public health and economic problems. We must ensure that schools have the resources to open safely during the coronavirus pandemic, and we must support public education, including critical education, social work and the emotional needs of children. States, cities, towns and villages are facing severe budget deficits. Without state and local help, we will experience a wave of layoffs, including teachers, nurses and other essential workers, as well as a reduction in public education and schools, among other critical services, in time when more is needed – not less – is needed.

“The purpose of getting children to go to school ourselves is that we know that’s how they learn best. School is important. However, many factors need to be taken into account to get children back into the classroom,” said Terry Ho, MD, an OSF HealthCare physician.

Schools, teachers and administrators have worked hard to make schools as safe as possible for children. Many schools have trained doctors and public health experts such as Dr. Ho, who personally helped several Catholic schools in Central Illinois develop their plans for opening.

Many schools use measures such as screening for diseases, requiring masks and allowing physical distractions to reduce the risk to teachers and students. They have issued new regulations on the purchase and installation of security equipment.

“And they have realized that they need to change. Schools cannot be viewed in a time of epidemic in the same way. “Schools have created options for those who may not be comfortable going back to the classroom,” said Dr. Ho.

“With all these measures, there are still things we can do to ensure that our children are healthy during the school year.”

Hand washing is a simple and effective way to prevent the spread of any disease. Developing good hand washing habits helps children understand the importance of hand washing.

Make washing hands fun. Use music, make signs or create other fun ways to make sure these behaviors last.

Safe Steps For Safe Schools

Germs can live on surfaces, including desks and countertops. Discuss the importance of not touching your face. Cleaning our nose, eyes and mouth are all ways we get germs into our nose, which can cause disease.

“This is why we want to continue to emphasize hand hygiene and the use of face masks,” Dr. He said.

“As parents, we have a responsibility in our family to keep our children at home if they are sick so they can recover. We also have a responsibility within our school family to spread any disease that our children may have,” said Dr. Ho.
