How To Get Red Dirt Stains Out Of Clothes

How To Get Red Dirt Stains Out Of Clothes – Let’s face it: kids love to play in the mud. Small children are fascinated by making mud puddles. Preschool and school children love to make them and then play with them. And older school-age kids take this love of mud to a new level: they play soccer, baseball, softball, or soccer. This means that most moms (and some dads too!) need to know how to get mud out of clothes during their parenting years.

I thought Thak was a guru. During the seasonal sale that I hang out for several weeks a year, all the other moms always come up to me and ask me how to get rid of this stain. I have written an entire post with my favorite stain removers.

Luckily (?), my daughters discovered a very mud cave last summer when we attended our first family music festival. When we got home it was time to take a good look at what we had to do to keep the mud and dirt out.

Skip to the end of this post to find out which product came out on top in my test – or

Best man and I enjoyed a Sunday morning “gospel set” at a music festival when the girls were bored. So they asked if they could explore a cave in a nearby rock formation with the other boys.

My husband and I spent all weekend wondering how our girls were old enough to play with other kids without us noticing every second. So we said, sure, go ahead! – We will contact you as soon as the package is complete.

We didn’t notice that the “cave” in question was covered in mud. Or our kids will spend a lot of time on the floor of this mud cave. A child, of course. Was heaven, not so much.

Cleaning them with a shower that night was the easy part. But when we got home, I decided it was time to take on the laundry mud challenge once and for all.

For preliminary testing, I’ve used most of the stain removers as directed on the package, with one notable exception. In any case, I applied the treatment directly to the fabric on two shorts.

For jeans and khaki shorts I used oxypaste on the right back pocket, carbonacca on the center seam, seam naphtha on the top left and sod on the bottom left.

I also tested socks with OxiClean, Zote and Fels-Naptha. During the camping trip, all socks were covered with mud, but the soles were also covered with dust from previous use. After washing, if all the stains didn’t come out the first time, I line-dried everything because I didn’t want the heat from the dryer to “set” the remaining stains.

The first round of spot treatment on the shorts showed a lot of improvement, but there were still traces of mud. All four products gave similar results on both denim and khaki shorts.

Although the packaging doesn’t mention this step, I asked Michael if he uses a scrub brush on the fabric between handling and washing the Sotella.

Working the soap into a damp cloth with a scrub brush did a good job of cleaning the green pants on the first try.

Socks were better than any shorts in the first round. While I didn’t use a scrub brush after using soap on some socks, one treatment removed dirt and grime from each treatment sock.

Each of these products, when used as described above, will reasonably remove mud and grime from clothing.

However, Zote is the overall winner as it has a significant advantage over Fels-Naptha. See if you can figure out what it is from these photos:

I was initially impressed with the eco-friendly seam-naphtha paper wrapper compared to the open plastic wrapper on Zote. But when I used the bars (by putting them in their wrappers to keep them from falling into my wet hands), I found that it was easier to rub Zote bars into fabric than fels naphta. Lots of reason. The plastic wrap on the jar is a stronger container than the paper felt wrap, which will disintegrate over time. Good for the planet.

In preparation for the children’s sales season, cleaning several sets of dirty shoes yielded the most surprising results:

Red Clay Stain Cleaner For Concrete, Brick & Stucco Surfaces

Usually I try to clean the soles of the shoes with a magic eraser, which usually makes them a bit cleaner – but not always, not always. (Even if you rub the melamine sponge on a rough surface, the sponge will tear quickly.) So I wet the white sole of a shoe, applied the sod strip, rubbed it a bit and rinsed it off.

As you can see, the fake shoe (right) looks as clean as new after applying the melamine sponge compared to the left shoe!

In my perfect world, baseball pants would only be sold in 3 colors… black, dark gray and navy blue. However, anyone with no laundry responsibilities decided long ago that white is the best color for a uniform whose main purpose is to skate on red dirt. Don’t get me wrong, I like white like all interior designers who post on Instagram, but I don’t have the budget to buy baseball pants every week.
