However, over the past couple of years, my hips have been having a hard time doing the sit-up – I’ve tried many other methods, with varying degrees of success. Today I’m bringing you an update to my original post – this time with more chairs (and more!) and lots of different things to do. Sitting is actually one of the most difficult things for an overweight person to do. Are restaurant chairs hard? do they have guns Is this place rooms only? What if they only have high chairs? What if I arrive at this choir practice and there are no seats at all? Sitting is a problem that thin people don’t even think about, but a bad chair can ruin an overweight person’s whole day.

And finding sturdy chairs for our homes can also be a challenge. Many sellers and manufacturers don’t even include office space in their listings. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not the chair will hold me. I even read the American Standard commercial and office seating specifications in my survey (side note: commercial seats only need 253 pounds to qualify; that’s why fat people have so many confidence issues.)

So over the years I’ve gathered a lot of information through trial and error, and since dealers don’t make it easy to find a chair for fat people, I took matters into my own hands. Below you will find a completely incomplete list of chairs – many of which I have personally tested and found success – for obese people. I’m only including the £500 or more options here (apart from one of the standouts) because, let’s be real, the super fat and super fat are the ones who need that kind of information. And if you find other great and affordable alternatives, let me know and I’ll add them to the list!

When I first wrote about this chair, I said there was no doubt it would last forever. However, here we are two years later and this thing is still going strong! I originally bought it to use in my very small kitchen (I sit, cook and cook) but after I moved to a new place with a lot more space, I moved this chair into my bathroom. I have another kitchen solution now (more on that to come) but this bench has performed and held up better than I expected and weighs over 500 lbs. Now it’s back in stock and I’m ordering it.
This ottoman is small but mighty! It’s a little pricey, but it’s the real leather version and it’s nice and durable! I sat on this guy for the first time at a friend’s house and was amazed at how well made it was – the whole frame is metal. It’s definitely worth the price and Pottery Pottery often has great sales that can save you $100 or more!

If you want the look of party chairs in hotel rooms, but guaranteed to catch you, Flash Church Chairs is the way to go. I have this black model and it is rock solid. I don’t want to sit in it for more than a few hours (my friends and I call this long chair-pain “party butt”), but if you need a chair that doesn’t work. You will look very different from all the other chairs in all your meetings, this is a great choice. And if you have a meeting place where you want to host fat people, these are the chairs you should buy. They are together! We promise they won’t take long!

This is the older brother of the Flash Church Chair. At 3 inches wide (24 inches by 21 inches) and weighing 1,000 pounds, I will say that I found this version to be more comfortable than the lighter version. That support from the sides of the seat was rough on the back of my thighs, but if you need extra comfort with extra weight, it’ll do just fine.
This is the chair I used in my husband’s kitchen. It’s simple, easy to carry, and perfect for a small kitchen. I will say though that even though I weighed less than 1000 pounds, I finally got the job done. Not in a terribly, explosion-y, way down the line, but one of the welders holding the back of the chair broke one day while I was doing the dishes. It was after heavy use (pun intended, but still appreciated) and this chair is one of the cheapest on the list, so I still feel it’s worth it. Took me about 8 months and for $46 I think it’s pretty good.

It is similar to the latter because it is lighter and has a base. The best comfort for me is that it has an inner circle – very easy on the back of the thigh. The weight capacity isn’t high and I bet you don’t want to spend a lot of time on this guy, but if you need a compact chair that you can fold up when you don’t need it, this is a good choice.
And finally, the weight bench isn’t that useful! I got two of them in the black on black version and I’m very pleased. It is beautiful and deep and powerful. The frame and legs are made of resin, but this isn’t the resin patio chair that every fat person fears – this chair is well built. It would be perfect as a free chair or even for a small accent in your room. Bonus: They weigh 900 pounds!
I know it’s a no-brainer, and if you’ve ever been to a spring wedding, you’ve probably seen a non-descript version of this chair. And this one weighs 1,000 pounds and is made of heavy duty steel, just like the King Louis above. Also, look at these two solid pillars on three sides. I haven’t had a chance to actually do it, but it’s next on my Goldilocks list and has some great ideas. For less than $50, it’s worth a shot!
