Before we do anything else, we need to take a minute to thank all of our wonderful sponsors and friends. chipped in products, custom parts, donated time or a physical hand to build a super custom golf cart inspired by the K5 Blazer. Thanks guys! We couldn’t do this without you, and we appreciate it.

This project started as the brainchild of Christian Amico, the president of Golf Carting magazine, who has an unhealthy addiction to 1970 Chevy K5 Blazers. He has built, customized and restored half a dozen over the past ten years and currently owns two.

Club Car Ds Golf Cart With New Black Body

And Matthew Smith, a great friend of Christian’s and owner of Charleston Custom Carts, has also been bitten by the same K5 Blazer bug and can often be seen driving around town in his custom 1973 K5 with the top off.

Both Christian and Matt had been thinking about taking on this project for over a year and decided to get started with the help of sponsors, friends and the talented staff at Charleston Custom Carts.

The build started with a Club Car DS Transport, a factory stretched 6 passenger coach. After it was completely stripped down to the frame it was acid washed dozens of times. The frame needed some welding and cleaning because it came from a local business that actually put the cart to work. After the frame was done, it was ready for a body…but which one?

The custom body looked like a shell of Tony’s fiberglass Bronco theme at CustomGolfCartBody.com. Christian and Matt decided it was a solid base to start from and knew Tony made great products.

The Bronco-style body has similar dimensions, scale and styling to a Blazer and it would be much easier to convert to a Blazer than custom manufacture from scratch. So Tony sent us a body and they got to work. To get the blazer right, the shell had to be seriously modified, the body machined, sanded and painted. Big shout out here to Daniel our body and paint guy. The whole process took about a month. The wheel wells were cut out, the hood was trimmed and reshaped, the truck bed area was covered with a bed and the dash was rebuilt. The roll bar sent by Tony was modified to mimic the 70’s Blazer style and two coats of paint and three coats of clear were applied.

As for the suspension, the guys wanted to make a statement, so they went with an All Sports 11″ lift and heavy duty rear leaf springs. The lift was tested at Charleston Custom Carts, aligned, then removed and sent to be powder coated to match the color of the cart.

With this incredible height it was time to decide on wheels and tires and for that Ryan from MSA Wheels was kind enough to help out and send over a set of 16×7″ M31 wheels with color matched bead (genuine). locks 31″ MotoRavage wrapped in tires Man this setup really looked amazing and more importantly it fit the style Matt and Christian were going for… 70’s Restomod!

The CustomGolfCartBody.com body also came with a fiberglass grill insert that looked like a late 60’s Bronco grill. Christian’s first reaction was to throw it away, but he came up with what would be one of the high-tech innovations needed to get this project off the ground: a custom designed and 3D printed 70’s Blazer grill.

Christian had previously gone to school for graphic design, so he had already made a digital render of this cart to use as a basis for fabrication, but when it came to the grill, the guys were scratching their heads on how to fabricate one. the tricky part. They were playing
