The use of renewable energy is increasing every year as the world recognizes its benefits in combating global warming. Additionally, the cost of renewable resources continues to fall, making them more viable today than ever.

Most of the above options are not suitable for private households, but they can be successfully used in services and other large establishments. For example, you might find it more convenient to power your home with solar panels than a wind turbine, although a wind farm is a great way to provide energy for the entire neighborhood.

The good news, however, is that once animals are introduced to the environment, they need to adapt.
Geothermal energy is perhaps the most underutilized renewable energy source. Geothermal energy works by using ground source heat pumps to harness heat from the earth’s core to generate electricity.
Geothermal energy can easily be harnessed in areas with very active plate tectonics and volcanic activity, such as Iceland or the US West Coast. You see examples of this in geysers as they shoot steam into the air, which is heat that builds up from the heart of the earth. The heat is used to generate geothermal energy.
One of the downsides of geothermal energy is the cost — it’s not yet able to compete with cheaper renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Building geothermal plants and digging deep to reach the hottest part of the world is very expensive.
You can think of hydroelectric power by imagining the ancient water wheels that were used to power flour mills. Now they are much larger and more complex hydroelectric generators.
Consider the Hoover Dam in Nevada: hydroelectric power uses the energy of water as it flows through the structure to drive turbines to generate electricity.
Hydroelectric power construction is known to displace local populations, disrupt fish migration patterns, and worsen droughts by keeping water upstream so that downstream populations receive less water.
But if it’s environmentally friendly and properly managed, hydropower is a great source of energy. As long as there is no drought, water is always flowing and fully renewable.
Bioenergy is a collective term for energy sources obtained from plant material. For example, corn can be used to make ethanol, a type of biofuel that is then used to fuel cars or planes.
Another application of bioenergy is wood pallets, also known as energy from biomass or energy from organic materials. Wood pellets are harvested from trees, which are then burned in power plants. Because fuel is made from plants, it is technically renewable – because plants can be replanted and grown year after year.
If trees are felled too quickly before they can regenerate, bioenergy may not be sustainable. Biomass is based on the assumption that the plants that are converted into energy also absorb the carbon that they release into the atmosphere when burned.
To ensure the process is sustainable, more trees need to be planted than felled to ensure CO2 is removed faster.
Nonrenewable energy sources are often referred to as “fossil fuels” because they are actually made from fossils of animals and plants that have decayed over millions of years. Coal, the world’s most popular polluting energy source, is used worldwide because historically it has been reliably cheap and easy to mine. Fortunately, renewable energy is becoming cheaper than coal.
Nuclear power is for the most part a renewable resource. But technically, it’s just a carbon-free energy source. While it’s true that the nuclear reaction that takes place to produce energy can last for years before the facility becomes obsolete, it creates large amounts of radioactive waste.
In addition, nuclear power requires a source of water to constantly cool the reactors, creating radioactive waste water. Radioactive waste water clogs water sources, which can result in contaminated drinking water or fish that cannot be eaten because they contain too much radiation.
Non-renewable resources such as gas, oil and coal are the main drivers of climate change. When fossil fuels are burned for use as an energy source, they release a range of pollutants from particulate matter to carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas.
CO2 occurs naturally in the atmosphere and actually keeps the earth at a comfortable temperature. However, when there is too much CO2 in the atmosphere, too much heat from the sun is trapped in the atmosphere, creating a cascading effect on climate.
There are many changes society as a whole needs to make to avoid the worst effects of climate change, but one of the first steps is to switch to fully renewable resources.
Slowly but surely the USA
Currently, all renewable energy sources make up just 12% of US electricity. it consumes energy, but that number is projected to increase to 42% by 2050, and by 2050 according to the US.
Although the world has not yet fully figured out how best to develop renewable energy, this is the best option we have to reduce humanity’s carbon footprint. Switching to renewable energy is imperative to reduce atmospheric CO2 and air pollution.
The good news is that renewable energy costs are falling and more utilities and homeowners are choosing renewable energy options. There are many opportunities for energy suppliers to integrate renewable resources such as solar farms, wind farms, geothermal plants, hydroelectric power and bioenergy.
