Wrestling Themed Bedroom Ideas – I’ve been working on the boys’ bedrooms little by little since we moved into our house in January 2017. My goal was to design a fun room that they’ll grow up with. I think I can say it’s finally done. I’m happy to introduce you to a boys adventure themed bedroom (with a secret hiding place) and give you some ideas and inspiration for decorating a kid’s room.
So let’s start with some previous images. This room is basically a white box with a pale white rug. The exception is the bright purple bathroom, which I shared with you in my post on our jack-and-jill bathroom makeup.

Why Room Sharing By Siblings Is A Good Idea
Alright, let’s continue. That room was too boring to spend another second, especially for two belligerent boys. Boys love adventure and exploration, so that became the “theme” for the room, with our two favorite colors being blue and green. We started by tearing down the rug and installing the white oak flooring. The walls are painted light gray – Silver Drop by Behr.
Two boys aged 5 and 7 and so far they enjoy sharing a room – especially with bunk beds. When I bought the bunk bed, I had one main requirement – the ladder had to be attached to the bed. I can imagine the trouble they would cause with a separate ladder. The bunk beds we’ve chosen are relatively affordable, but the assembly isn’t very exciting. (If I remember, I lost at least a few hours and drank six cans of beer.)
If you have bunk beds in your home, you know how difficult it can be to change bed sheets. After many repetitions of sheets that made me sweat and strain my muscles every time I made the bed, we finally decided on this combination. We completely removed the top plate and used only one that fits. Guys say they don’t need the top sheet, and it’s always piled up at the end of the bed anyway. The chambray duvet is soft and has the right weight for Florida. In winter, we just need to put another blanket on top.
The boys need a drawer big enough to share (they also have a wardrobe), and this one is free. But it is in dire need of a change. A few coats of gray paint (to match the bed) and brass fittings completely transform it. (See all the details of the gray wardrobe makeover here!)

Since the boys have a playroom downstairs, their bedroom is mainly for sleeping and reading. Therefore, it is important to have a place to store all their books. Not to mention, books are a great way to add color to a child’s room! (The rocking chair belonged to their great-grandfather.)
While I love the hardwood floors, we needed a rug for the inevitable wrestling matches taking place in the boys’ adventure bedroom. This navy and white shaggy rug is perfect! It is very soft and does not show any stains or stains.
In addition to the globe, the artwork has an “adventure and discovery” theme. The green world map was one of the first things I bought for my eldest son’s nursery almost 8 years ago. (I bought it on Etsy, but unfortunately the store is closed now.)
Farmhouse Themed Bedroom
I also made these large military alphabets, as an acknowledgment of my husband’s military background. Here’s a closer look:
I downloaded a free military style font and imported the alphabet into a Word document, then added some colors (blue and green of course) and adjusted the formatting. In the end, I printed them as 24 x 36 color technical prints from Staples for about $5 each and hung them in a metal poster frame. In total, this entire large wall-filling artwork costs around $40! And, as a bonus, my boys are actually learning the military alphabet – “Hooray!”
These cute watercolor adventure maps are also from my eldest son’s nursery, another great find by Etsy. Now they fit perfectly into a boy’s adventure bedroom.
The arrows are an easy way to connect with the theme of adventure. I bought a few wooden arrows of various designs (these, these and these) and painted them in different colors. Then I glued the arrows to the wall with double-sided tape. For fun, I cut an arrow in half so it could bend around an angle.
Movie Themed Room
Here’s another look at the arrows. After painting the big arrow, I sanded it a bit to make it look shabby. The galvanized metal letter “W” is our family name. In addition to the blue and green colors, I used natural wood and metal elements in the space.
These wooden spoons are at my son’s nursery, but they are light green. I sanded and painted them to match the arrows.
So here’s what we did – the “curtain” is actually a piece of blue and white fabric. I cut the incision in half and bordered it with a yellow pom pom. I hemmed the sides and bottom, and sewed a curtain pocket at the top. We attached a wooden board to the top of the hole and attached brackets on the back to hold the curtain rod in place. (I tried using a tension bar first, but those guys keep pulling it down…)
Turns out the old crib-sized mattress fits the space almost perfectly. We string lights and the boys help decorate the walls with stars that glow in the dark. Glow-in-the-dark planets hang from the ceiling.
