That seems to be what Canada believes. Canada is one of the world’s leaders in the production and use of renewable energy, such as hydro, wind, solar, and biomass. Apart from that, Canada has also undergone significant development in marine and geothermal energy. Today, renewable energy sources provide about 16% of the total primary energy supply in the country. The main source of renewable electricity comes from water, which provides more than 60% of Canada’s electricity generation. But wind and solar are the fastest growing energy sources. According to a forecast of demand for environmental work, this sector will grow by 8% in Canada by 2029. The document emphasized that environmental roles exist in every region and profession, and that it offers a wide variety of jobs. Here are the highlights of the demand forecast for environmental work: The combination of new jobs and the demand for environmental replacement could contribute up to 233,500 vacancies by 2029. Nearly 30% of the current workforce is expected to retire in the next decade. The demand for environmental workers will affect every field and every profession. Labor and skills shortages can be addressed to meet demand in a sustainable way. Environmental regulation and investment have increased over the past decade. These changes have contributed to the great growth of green jobs. Canada is committed to a low-carbon future by investing in clean technologies and increasing energy efficiency. The nation’s justice is linked to sustainable economic growth. The Canadian Renewable Energy Market The federal government’s 2019 budget indicates that $14.8 billion has been spent on infrastructure projects aimed at: reducing greenhouse gas emissions; supply of clean air; safe water systems; Promotion of renewable power plants. Energy efficiency in Canada has increased by 31% since 1990. And in 2016, these improvements saved Canadians $45 billion. The most widely used renewable energy sources in the world Renewable energy sources will account for more than half of the world’s electricity production by 2035. Based on the installed electricity generation capacities in the world, the top five renewable energy sources are hydropower, wind energy, solar energy, biological energy and geothermal energy. In addition to the 500 installations, 81,000 MW of installed capacity and 130,000 jobs supported by the sector, Canada has the potential to double its current capacity. growing demand for electricity generation in North America Canadian Hydropower and Pumped Storage Projects Site C in British Columbia Muskrat Falls in Newfoundland and Labrador La Romaine Unit 4 Canyon Creek Project Moon Lake Pumped Storage Hydro Project Site C Clean Energy Project Site C will be a third dam and a hydroelectric power station on the Peace River, in northeastern British Columbia. The project will provide 1,100 MW of capacity and generate 5,100 GWh of electricity per year. That’s enough energy to power 450,000 homes a year in British Columbia. Managed by BC Hydro, the project has an estimated investment of $8.5 billion and will soon create 13,000 direct jobs in its construction. Construction started in the summer of 2015 and the project will be operational in 2025. Once built, it will provide clean electricity to British Columbia for more than 100 years. Muskrat Falls Project The Muskrat Falls Project is the construction of an 824MW facility with over 1,600km of transmission lines across Newfoundland and Labrador. It consists of two locations at Muskrat Falls and Gull Island. They will have a combined capacity of more than 3,000 MW. Powered by by Nalcor Energy, for an estimated $9.6 billion investment project. The Lower Churchill River is one of the most attractive hydroelectric resources in North America. It is strategic and an important part of the province’s energy portfolio. The project will be commissioned in August 2021 Complex La Romaine Unit 4 In Quebec, the project concerns a 1,550 MW hydroelectric power station on the Rivière Romaine, north of Havre-Saint-Pierre, on the north coast of the St. Lawrence.The complex will consist of four hydroelectric plants with an average annual production of 8.0 TWH. The Romaine project will generate major economic spins, approximately $3.5 billion for Quebec and $1.3 billion for the Côte-Nord region. An average of 975 new jobs a year while the project is in operation. Managed by Hydro Quebec, the project has an estimated investment of $6.5 billion and will be completed in 2021. Canyon Creek Canyon Creek Project is the construction of a 75 MW pumped hydroelectric storage facility near Hinton, Alberta. The project can be expanded to 400 MW through future development. The project consists of two small water reservoirs outside the stream. One at the top of the hill by a working mine and the other at the bottom not far from the Athabasca River. These two artificial lakes are connected by a pipeline with pumps, turbines and production equipment near the lower reservoir at a power plant. Operated by Turning Point Generation, for an estimated $225 million investment project. The project will be completed in 2022. Moon Lake Pumped Storage Hydro Project This is a reversible hydroelectric power station where water is pumped up into a reservoir. If necessary, the water that flows back from the hill is used to produce electricity in the same way as a conventional hydroelectric power station. Benefits of the project: Adds capacity to meet winter and emergency demand. Provides a way to store excess renewable electricity in the summer to reduce dependence on fossil fuels in the winter. The estimated investment from the operator of the company (Manitoba Hydro) is $8.7 billion and is expected to be operational in 2021. It requires a massive workforce of 2,500 transactions, support services and professionals. Solar energy in Canada By 2050, solar energy will be the largest source of electricity in the world.
