So far from the material that we have, we have made, we have received from the family, or we have a feeling. For example, we have a small table sitting behind our bed that we found for $20 at an antique shop and used in our wedding ceremony for the communion table.
Even the high school pillow was not my pillow. It is offensive. We could have replaced the missing, but less shabby (but still sharp looking) neutral bed cover now that we could save for the anniversary of the privation.
When he marked us, we made a table out of wooden pallets one hour in the summer. It is now sitting in our living room.

Anyway, I simply love the individual pieces and the anthropology of the furniture style and Matt loves the Redintegration Hardware look. But we really wanted to be good stewards of our money and see what we could do for $20 instead of $2000, so we put our noggins together and tried to put together a look without spending an arm and a leg.
While I love creating projects and trying new projects this way, I’m honest to say that DIY can be unnecessary (real talk, we had to stain this twice because the first time it turned out waaay too dark…).
As frustrating as it can be, I love it because it is a great way to give grace to ourselves and our work in the unfinished process, it really reveals how much we really don’t know (which is beyond humiliating), it teaches us. persevering and problem-solving, as well as providing us with the ability to do something that will be valuable and useful.
Building something provides such a beautiful image and reminds us of the work and labor we are called to do to build the Kingdom.

So it makes sense that we thrive when we create. We don’t have to be great artists to create something meaningful. We were created to create and as His creations we can glorify Him by using the skills He gave us to create—and that totally counts when it comes to DIY projects!

It’s a totally imperfect, soul-searching process, but it’s life-giving when we allow ourselves to work hard on something.
So as much as this is different from our usual blog, I am so happy to share with you that we have made this precept so that you can try it and experience the joy that actually also brings creating!
Diy Headboard Ideas
1.Measure the length of your bed (queen, king, full, etc.) and find a larger mattress that is slightly wider than your bed (you want the mattress to be at least 6-7 inches wider than your bed. If you look at the photo of our finished headboard, you will see the mattress Extend 3-4 inches on either side of the bed, which will look much better than if the width is perfectly flush.
2. Remove the boards from the measured size of the pallet and fill the gaps on the large pallet by cutting those pieces and twisting them into a large head. We found a large pallet with a large gap between the wooden boards in the front, so we tore the boards off the standard size pallet and filled in the gaps with the large pallets with them! If your large pallet does not have large gaps, you do not need this step. See an example:
3. Cut the 6ft 4/4 beam into two pieces for the pipes. Measure from the top of your mattress to the ground, and cut your pieces about 2 inches shorter than that. We cut the logs 28″ and this allows the top finger or two of your mattress to be at the bottom edge of the headboard so that there is some overlap and it doesn’t somehow hurt or chip you in the bottom edge of the forest in your sleep!
4. Line up the feet so that the back side is red and screw in the legs about 3 inches from the outer edge of the pallet on either side.

5. Once assembled, use sanding to polish all rough edges and prepare for stain. This is important because if the furniture is used in your bedroom, you don’t want to risk splintering or cutting yourself in the mouth.
6. After all the edges and sides of the sandal, place the cape on a tarp or old sheet and use a large and medium brush to cover the entire surface of your stain. Depending on how dark you want it, you may want to do two coats.
8. Place it behind the bed and place it with screws to the wall and drills to keep it leaning over the edge of the bed.
9. My favorite part: Add bar lights, fun throw pillows, or other accessories to give it a little pizzaz!

As I said, our house is a mismatch of DIY projects, antique finds, and it has bothered me. Imperfect is wonderful and it’s funny that life feels so abundantly full right now. We have enough stuff, but not a ton of stuff. We don’t plan to be in a rental house forever, but we do plan to celebrate life and glorify God forever. This is one of many things to do
I hope that, as life gets busier and more complicated, we never lose sight of the simplicity and generosity in which there is so much joy. I hope we never forget to make space, open our doors and live abundantly wanting to impress or keep up with the Joneses.
Play with your life and celebrate life in the space you’ve been given, even if it’s a dorm or temporary space. Always rather looking forward or chasing, make the most of what you have.
No matter what you do, you will be so full of life if you want to be a good steward of your money, let your money be open to you, allow yourself to try new things, glorify God at all times; and focus on what matters most!
