We rarely eat in the dining room and most of the time my crafts end up all over.

In the end we decided to sell our table and cottage and I would build a DIY table for the farm.

Be impatient like me and try to move it yourself. I tried flipping the table top and it landed on my big toe… Ouch!

If you’ve never used a Greg Jig before, don’t panic, it’s super easy! Makes pocket holes quick and easy. Then attach the panels with self-tapping screws. You can get it for $40 on Amazon by clicking here.

Plus, I just use a regular clamp. Since all the wood I work with is 2 inches thick, I don’t need to change the setting.

Attach it, drill a hole, loosen, and drill the board 6 inches back. Again, again, again! That’s it!

After making all the pocket holes, attach the panels with the pocket hole screws found here.

I really like these screws. They twist very easily and I use them when drilling flat things like table legs.

It was a bit awkward for the curved edges of the table leg. You will need to cut the 2x4s for the sides. Cut one side at a 30 degree angle, then measure 38 inches (or whatever length you choose) and cut the other end at a 30 degree angle (not parallel ends!)

After the first cut, measure 1 1/4 inches from the longest point and draw a line. Then angle the saw to 45 degrees and cut off a small section.

I sanded the top of my garage with 120 grit and then my vibrating sander with 220 grit. I attached the legs, the top, and then moved them into my dining room to attach them together.

I wanted to brighten up my room with a sectional white farmhouse table. So, I painted the bottom half of the table with Renaissance Chalk Paint in Ivory Tower. You can find it here on Amazon.

I lightly sanded with 220 grit between coats and sealed with 2 coats of polycrylic (found by clicking here).

As for the table top, I wanted a gray country table look. So, I started by brushing on a coat of Minwax Wood Conditioner (find it on Amazon by clicking here).

After that dried, I applied Minwax Dark Walnut Stain. I brushed the coat on with a brush and then wiped off the excess with a cotton t-shirt.

I added a layer of worn gray, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then wiped off the excess again.

You can see the difference adding an extra layer of weathered gray makes. The left half of the table has a gray finish and the right half is a dark walnut stain.

After everything dried, I applied 3 coats of urethanetop to cover my DIY country table. Woof!

This is now my new dining room and new gray and white country table. It’s not perfect, but it’s handmade and I love it!
