I have a really DIRTY sink. I wish I could tell you that you were so dirty on purpose so I could write this blog post for you… Unfortunately, that would be a lie! 😉 It’s so dirty…
After Sarah’s morning post this morning, I also tried cleaning the sink with natural products. I don’t have bleach in the house, but every now and then I want a shiny sink. Here’s how you can have a sparkling sink without using bleach.
I’m especially excited because it requires minimal effort and the baking soda is non-toxic! My house doesn’t smell and I have a clean sink using natural (and cheap) products.
After cleaning the sink with baking soda for a long time, I have found that cleaning a porcelain sink is easier and better with BORAX!
How To Clean A Ceramic Sink Or Porcelain Sink
Thanks for the borax tip. This is my next step. A very intermittent cleaner came in today and cleaned my sink. I think Ajax or Comet missed it. ewww.
I didn’t think of borax as an eco-friendly product, but since you suggested it as an alternative to bleach, I checked it out and it turns out we use it a lot in our house. Thanks for a great article.
Sara what a life saver and sink!!!! I made baking soda and now have a brand new sink. thank you very much
Sarah, no offense, but I HATE this sink. Too shallow, too small, too easy to get dirty! 😉 But the price was right – my remodeling husband reused it from the kitchen he was remodeling a few years ago. As soon as I finish the trim and crown moldings for our home, I’m blogging about the conversion!

Six Simple Secrets For A Shiny Sink
And the sink was completely stained! When I wash the dishes, I always wash the sink with a little dish soap, but these stains never go away.
Fortunately, it’s easy to clean! All you have to do is wet the entire sink, then shake Bar Keeper’s Friend powder all over the sink. Wet the scrubbing sponge and wipe the sink with the scrubbing side. For stubborn stains or black marks, use a bit of elbow grease to really remove the stain. But for 90% of the “mess” in the sink, it is enough to gently rub the cleaning powder into the sink with the scrubbing side of the sponge.
Looks like new again! And the stains on the sink and the scratch marks on the edges are completely gone!
